Lydia is busy being the good child and doesn't want to go against anything that would cause her shame. She seems to want to be the one who always does the right thing. What will happen when she needs to defend herself against people in authority? Will she find it prideful to speak her mind, or will she submit to her elders?
There are wonderful lessons to be learned in this well written and emotional read. We find the dad who has been holding unforgiveness and bitterness in his heart. Will he finally allow God to soften his heart, or will he push his family away.? I loved how the mom had much wisdom to share and did with a soft heart and humor. I think using humor when giving advice makes it easier to receive.
There are other characters in the book that will cross paths with Lydia and Emma. What impact will they have on their lives? I loved the writing style and how each character learned different things as they listened to God. The story will make you really think about your own attitude. Do you have someone you need to forgive? Is pride standing in the way of a blessing from God? Do you know what unconditional love feels like? Don't miss this beautifully written story that will give you a "Change of Heart" if you are open to receive it.
When Lydia Esh starts out to follow her sister Emma around she thought she was protecting her. When Lydia teams up with Emma's boyfriends brother Caleb it causes the situation to escalate. When a devastating accident occurs it changes Lydia's family forever. Can Lydia let go of her guilt to help her family to heal? Who does Lydia accept help from in this situation?
This story has alot of different twist throughout it and some will catch you off guard and shock you. Lydia's grandmother has a tale to tell and things will change drastically when she does. Will Lydia continue with her classes to join the church and marry her boyfriend or is there a twist there that could change things?
I was not given a complimentary copy of this book for review. I am submitting my honest review for an outstanding story that brought me to tears several times. I have given Change of Heart a 5 star rating for meeting my expectations. I will be watching for the release of book 2 in this series. Congratulations Rachel J Good for a wonderful start to your series.
Change of Heart is the first book in the Sisters and Friends.
At first I thought this would be a fairly predictable Amish story. I was delightfully wrong. This was a well developed story with strong characters. It’s a story about what happens when the Amish and English world collide and it’s far reaching effects to the family structure. The author was able to show both view points through dialog, strong characters and a well developed story. This was a very good story. Just like life the story is not predicable. I loved the grandmother s character (Mamie). She was wise from her experiences, feisty, strong and determine. You could see her love throughout all the family interactions. The book also shows forgiveness in action.......how to apply it and how God works in your life for good.
The author has the unique ability to present characters that draw you in & helps you understand each of their perspectives. And you grow to love each one by the end of the book. Relationships between sisters isn’t always an easy road, but these sisters find a way to work through their difficulties with each other & forge a deep friendship & respect for each other. The feisty grandma was one of my favorites, who was willing to stand up for what she believed was right.
Although this author writes under several pseudonyms, this is her first venture into Amish romance. I can’t wait for the 2nd book in this series. I believe this author is on par with Wanda Brunstetter & Beverly Lewis & give this book my highest recommendation.
This is one of the best books I have read in a long time. It held my interest from start to finish. It has a good family content to and a great love of God. Which I love in books. Such strong family ties and values in it. Can't hardly wait for the second book of this series.
