Editorial Reviews

From the Publisher

There are thousands of Harley riders who would like to learn how to change the oil in their motorcycle and this is the book that teaches you how to do it. The bare minimum of tools are given so you don't have to purchase an expensive tool set. The book can make you money by savings on time, labor and with enhanced engine longevity, not to mention it is the first step of becoming a motorcycle mechanic, if that is what you would like as a primary career or a part-time side job. You also will never need to schedule appointments and wait for your bike to be serviced ever again... you can do it in your garage or even your outside sidewalk beside your home. No fuss, no mess, no waiting and no paying high prices for oil changes ever again! Not just that, you also learn how to change the primary oil, transmission oil, oil filter, spark plugs, air filter, etc. And you will learn how to dramatically extend the life of your V-twin engine (a huge money savings right here alone) and get about 5 more horses from the engine right away, right now and get better miles per gallon. This book will save you money, make you money and it will certainly pay for itself many times over in just the first year alone!

From the Author

Of course you can purchase a factory service manual for over $75, but it will not reveal the tips and tricks of the trade to help you get the job done quickly or prevent trouble developing by doing it wrong or by making innocent mistakes, like stripping a thread, etc. That's not going to happen in my book! I have given approximately 80 illustrations with step-by-step intensive guidance on how to change the oil compartments, spark plugs, air cleaner, oil filter and also methods we will get about 5 to 8 more horsepower from the engine with valuable engine longevity instructions given. Try the book and you will see how easy and trouble-free it will be. I wrote this book for you, the person who has never personally maintained your V-twin engine and you do not know how to begin. I will teach you as if I was standing over your shoulder showing you how to do it, step-by-step. It is so easy a girl can do it! Buy the book and start saving money today! How much did you pay for oil change and routine maintenance last year? You can put an end to that starting right now. Consider this book makes a great gift item to anyone who loves to ride Harley Davidson Motorcycles! And if you ever want to earn extra money you can do oil changes on other Harley's now that you know how to do it. Harley dealers also hire temporary workers to change oil at times of peak business seasons, motorcycle rallies, etc. I am also going to teach how to extend oil changes on your bike so you don't have to do it as often and still have cleaner oil then anyone else, anytime, anyday! Learn about my time-proven and reliable perpetual oil change method! By the way, the bike we use in the book will be my Harley Davidson. Order the book today. You will be glad you did!

There are a some good tips, but the book is fairly unstructured and
contains numerous annoying grammatical errors.
In general, not very well written.
Not recommended.

This book is very easy to read. It is a bit dated. It doesn't mention Harleys newer than 2006. I like how it tells you exactly what tools you need. I would recommned this book only if you have very little to no mechanical skills. Otherwise, a shop manual would be a better investment.

Change the Oil is not going to win any book awards. It was disappointing. Very poorly organized with random points made through out and other points repeated multiple times. The information could have been conveyed in about 10 well written pages. It could have used a proof reader. There were many misspellings, missing words, etc. Photos were of a very poor quality. I really don't know whether I should trust the information. I recommend you find another source for the information

This is a great book for even those of us that have been changing their own oil for 30 years. Don't fund you local Harley dealer with high cost, easy work. Well worth the read and as a reference book. If you have a Harley, you need to buy this. Would give five stars if book was cheaper and it does need a newer rev.

Needs to be updated a bit. I've got a 2009 1200XL and the pictures are sometimes not accurate. He doesn't acknowledge the genius at HD who replaced the oil drain plug with a rubber tube and screw clamp. I'd ask that Mr. Russell try to update it based on what is the newer models. He's got good ideas and makes a somewhat difficult job much more easier.

Exactly as described. No frills, straight forward explanation with clear photos showing how to change all the primary fluids in your Harley. With this handy book, you can do it yourself even if you aren't handy with wrenches. Glad I got it

This is a good book to reference for anyone with mechanical knowledge about motorcycles, or a good book for someone with no mechanical ability to be able to pick up a socket and have the ability to change their oil and filter or numerous other simple jobs.
