That is this book. Brett goes through something that not only changes his life with his wife but changes the life of those around him. We see the struggle of a man who is trying to move on from his past while moving on with Jesse and their future together.
I don’t know how she does it, but Jesse has the patience of a saint. She is able to be patient with Brett as he struggles with letting go of Sarah and not letting it effect his relationship with Jesse. In a lot of ways I can relate to Jesse (which is a big reason why I like her so much) because she is sarcastic and funny, and sweet. The exact person that Brett needs.
Brett is annoying at times. While I may understand and appreciate why he makes certain choices, it still doesn’t help that I am annoyed with him. He is an alpha male who protects and loves Jesse like she deserves but there are times when he goes back to his past and I’m just like ‘oh my God if you break her heart’.
What I love most about Aly Martinez’s writing is that she can create these troubled and complex characters and how she uses powerful emotions to overcome the demons of life. Love, happiness, and hope. Those are the things in life worth fighting for and in her books she shows why they should never be given up on.
There book has a HEA with no cliffhanger. It’s a series but each book could be read as a stand-alone but it’s recommended to read them in order.
I loved Brett and his beautiful heart. He was the good and supportive husband who wouldn't let his Sarah go and accepting that they weren't meant to be. It was heartbreaking at times to witness what he and Sarah went through. Thankfully he had his best friend Caleb, who was also affected by the accident that changed Sarah. Caleb definitely caught my interest too;)
Jesse was fantastic in every way. She was shy and at times insecure but Brett did everything to reassure her and she was his saving grace and light in the darkness. They were so good together and I enjoyed how much fun they had. Yes, their chemistry was terrific and so was their time together between the sheets.
Sarah was another story. Wow! She did a 180 and changed after the accident. Nobody walks away unscathed from a trauma and Sarah was proof of that. I actually felt sorry for her and I know her story is far from over but she has a long way to recovery.
I'm ready to read more about these characters. Fantastic book from Aly Martinez, her prose and storytelling was sublime. The Wrecked and Ruin series will definitely leave me feeling that once I'm finished.
The characters in this story are written with ease, with such realistic qualities I felt instantly connected to each and every one of them. Their witty banter made this a delight to read. The storyline held many dimensions, making this not only a fun read, but an interesting one, as well. The story is rich with emotion, sizzles with seduction and beautifully encompasses friendships, relationships, loss, love, life and rediscovery. This is one of those books where the story captivates your mind. With each chapter you read, you find yourself invested into the characters’ lives. You feel the characters, their emotions and their thoughts. The story is written at a perfect pace. Each character is described to you in vivid detail, leaving no question to the thoughts behind their actions, their reactions to situations and the reasoning behind each and every word, movement and emotion. The flashbacks provide the perfect amount of detail for the story to come full circle.
I loved Brett. From his first word I fell hard and fast, and, as the story progressed, my feelings intensified. Brett carries such conflict and pain. He is beautifully broken and desperately determined. Jesse was an easy character to relate to. Her insecurities, her determination, her intelligence and her naivety were written to perfection. Sarah was an amazing character that stunned and shocked as she transformed throughout the story. While I felt compassion and heartbreak, I also felt angry, and, at times, mystified by her actions. Having said that, I would have to say the author did a fabulous job on this and all of the characters in this story. Caleb, well, I found it impossible not to love him. He is such a complex character with such deep and heartfelt emotions. This character’s possibilities are endless and I can’t wait to continue this series to see where the author takes him.
The dynamic of family plays an important part in this story and I enjoyed seeing so many different versions. The happy well- rounded family, the family who fought to survive and still keeps a watchful eye and the destruction of a family unit. I was given three very different views into three very different family elements and I enjoyed each and every one.
This was my introduction to Aly Martinez and it proved to be such an amazing and enjoyable experience. I have already purchased the other books in this series and look forward to losing myself inside the world the author has created. I truly enjoyed this entire book and fell in love with the way this author tells a story.
