If only it had a automatic return spring in it so one wouldn't have to open the jaws manually each time it would be perfect.
To the credit of Amazon, and their automated and streamlined return process, I have since received a new pair of pliers two days after having made the request for replacement. The new tool is not exactly an exemplar of attention to detail, but they do appear to be solid and entirely functional. I hope it gives me years of dutiful service, and I can rest easier knowing I have supported my fellow countrymen by buying a US-made quality tool. I am knocking a star off though, since surface rust was present out-of-box -- I don't buy tools to have something pretty, but not adequately oiling tools to be stored long term is just generally ill advised. I am leaving the original review too, in order to encourage others to give Channel Lock a second chance, should they find themselves in the same predicament as mine. After all, these needle noses where the only quality issue I've ever had out of all the various Channel Lock tools I own and love.
I'm to the point, 20+ years later, that the tools I inherited from my pops are all wearing out and becoming unusable (some of which he inherited from his pops!). I strongly believe in buying quality tools once, rather than repurchasing cheap crap in perpetuity. To that end, I went to Amazon for a solid US-made tool, Channel Lock. However, I'm sitting here looking at a pair of their 6" needle noses, that appear to have been dressed and finished by Helen Keller herself. These things are horrendous: uneven grindings, off-center tips, uneven tips, grossly off-center profile, mismatched close, greatly gapped close, and excessively stiff.
I couldn't believe that such a highly regarded company had produced such a piece of garbage that actually made it out the door, and so spent a couple hours researching others' experience in this regard.Read more ›
I later bought the 8-inch Knipex long-nose pliers with cutter (Knipex 2611200, made in Germany), and wow, what a difference. The rivet on the Knipex seems to be machined more accurately, and those pliers are super smooth out of the box. The quality of the machining is also better on the Knipex vs. the Channellocks (mine have some uneven grinds and part of the logo didn't get stamped on because it was off-center).
I paid $20 for the Knipex pliers, and they were also longer (8 inch vs. 6). Not much of a price difference compared to these Channellock pliers. While I appreciate a good quality American made product, these Channellocks have so far not been very impressive. I would have likely given these a better review if I had never owned the Knipex pliers. However, now that I've experienced a really good pair of pliers, it's hard to be impressed by these Channellocks.
I have had this set of pliers forever. They Continue to serve me well. Given their track record, they should last me a lifetime.
Buy with confidence.

I didn't realize what size of pliers I was ordering.... that's my fault. These aren't the usual size I generally use, but they seem to be of very high quality.Published 6 months ago by I_am_brad8546
Quality American made product!!! No comparison to a Chinese made product. Lost my last pair that I had for 15 years.Published 10 months ago by Roger Tasnady
