1st are the screws that keep the legs from folding under the grill. A nice feature. 2nd, and most important to me, is the push button start. Being a non smoker having a lighter laying around to light the old one was always a problem. With this one it will no longer be necessary.
The reason I am giving it 4 stars instead of 5 is build quality and quality control. There is a wind blocker on the inlet venturi. It has a tab welded to it so you can hold it in place with a screw. That tab was improperly installed and the screw hole on the tab was inside the guard instead of outside. I drilled a hole in it to fix the issue, but it is a bit difficult to drill because it us stainless steel. The second, and bigger problem, is the handle for the lid. When I installed the screws even the slightest of tightening caused the threads on the plastic handle to strip out. The screws were to short to have adequate engagement. Also, the plastic isn't really strong enough. I used longer screws and one side still stripped out. Tomorrow, when I have time I am going to install thread inserts. That should fix the problem but should also be completely unnessesary.
Once those issues are felt with I expect this grill to offer years of service just as my old one did.
Easy assembly with 1 philips OR flathead screwdriver. I was puzzled by the silver rectangle in the image. Turns out to be the heat shield under the handle. This thing heats fast and cooked a half chicken in 40 minutes. I did make a drip pan out of aluminum foil to catch the grease. Keeping the grill clean will go a long way to extending it's life.
The only positive thing I can say about this grill: It is surprisingly sturdy.
I was wrong.
It was super easy to assemble. Easy to put away when i wasn't using it. Big enough for a couple burgers or a small steak. Easy to clean. And then it suddenly stopped working.
I was in the middle of grilling up a steak when it quit. I checked the tank, and it was fine. I checked all the lines, took it apart, and cleaned it all out, but couldn't find any problems. Got a new tank just to be sure, but nope... it was DOA. It last exactly 37 days. My old one lasted years, and it didn't die ...I sold it. Not sure what happened between then and now, but I can say I won't buy another one.
In addition to arriving damaged, the grill has two unrelated problems. Since I need to use this grill right away, I'm fixing these issues myself instead of returning for a good unit.
1) The threads for the lid handle stripped under very little pressure during assembly. I plan on using epoxy to allow the handle to be used.
2) I purchased the "deluxe" version which includes the igniter. Unfortunately, one of the wires (ground) is too short preventing the igniter from working. I will be splicing the wire to get it to the correct length.
I wish I could return the grill for a new one but I can't as I need to use it this weekend. For $25 I expected it not to be great quality, but it should have arrived in working order.
