Top customer reviews
Like others it did take me more time than I thought it should have to assemble this grill, but overall I like it.
Small footprint, it works nicely on my porch
Even, high heat cooking that thus far has resulted in GREAT tasting chicken, pork and steaks
Easy to ignite
Easy to keep clean
I'm pretty handy, but it took me nearly 1.5 hours to assemble this grill
The paint ... Come on CharBroil .. How about using some real high temperature paint? Mine has started to slightly bubble up on the surface of the lid after using the grill a scant 4 times
UPDATE: 6 months later
Grill is still going strong. Really great for cooking steaks, hamburgers & dark meat chicken. Great taste for those meats without charcoal. Much harder to cook chicken breast in this grill and have it come out moist due to the relatively high temps generated by this grill.
UPDATE: 11 months after purchase
Paint on the grill's lid interior has now begun to peel off in large pieces. Other than that, this Charbroil still works great. The grill itself does take some work to clean each time I use it. Grill has also developed a light patina of rust that has to be wire brushed before each use. Product would last longer if it were all stainless. The high heat generated by this grill kills the paint. Hoping to get at least 2 years out of this grill ... We'll see.
UPDATE: 30 months after purchase
PROS: One of the best grills I've ever owned in terms of ease of use and taste of food; nuff said. I'm ordering another tonight. Highly recommend this grill.
CONS: Paint continued to peel off; used a motorized blower to clear it from time to time. The grill is now at the point where it should be replaced due to much of the metal in the gooves simply falling into the fire over time. This grill is more like a standard ribbed grill than an infrared grill at this point. Also Piezo ignition failed within the last 30 days. New battery didn't solve the problem. Copied this review from my previous review of the same product on Amazon. First time ever, Amazon changed the name of a product and dropped the previous reviews. VERY SURPRISED. Anyway, I've kept up with a long term review for the 1st time.
The item instructs that user to pre-heat it at least 5 minutes before use, and so I go out and light it as the instructions tell, but turning it to light position and pushing the electronic ignition until I hear the burner light (on this grill, one cannot see the burner flame, so all I can go on is the sound and the feeling of heat being produced). I then go inside to prepare the food that is to go on the grill. I come back out and the first two times, it was obvious as the temp meter had not moved. I turned it off, opened the grill to air out the gas that had built up (yes, the gas is still coming out when the burner flame has stopped), and then I do the procedure again and wait.
The third time, it had apparently heated up some and then went out (again...the temp knob is set to the hottest setting)...so I did not notice that the flame had gone out. I opened the lid and must have caused a spark, because the grill top flew out of my hand and opened with a loud explosion and blew me backwards away from the grill. I did not notice that I had all the hair on my right arm sindged off up to my shoulder and that my watch has been been burned on the strap and had melted into my skin.
This thing is a danger and should be recalled and fixed. I love the grill, it is the perfect size for us and cooks everything well ..but i afraid to use it.
I call this review..for want of a 5 cent o-ring....because otherwise this grill really is a great buy and a great grill considering the company that makes it. Usually, Char-Broil items have fallen apart, rusted and generally been a 3 year throw away for us. We have not had good luck with them. Then we spot this one; a completely different look and market segment for them...and after reading up on this, we decided to go for it. We are empty nesters and don't need a big grill anymore...this one is perfect in that it will fit our food, and up to four good sized porterhouse steaks at one time. The cooking mechanism involves a more evenly distributed heat, and while, when you read the company line on this, you may find it hard to believe, it does work exactly as they say. The meat takes an immediate sear...and then cooks everything markedly juicier than a conventional gas grill.
It also leave those perfect, classic grill marks and smokes up just enough to add the flavor we crave. The gill will get every bit as hot as any other grill, registering as much as 550 degrees on high, and cooks very evenly.
It also comes with a very good manual that explains the difference in this cooking method, gives some advice on times, and help in cleaning and keeping this unique cooking service clean and free of rust. I listed to it exactly and the grill does exactly as it is supposed to.
Now for the one star....I don't understand why, but char-broil refuses to address the one problem that everyone seems to have with this grill...the igniter allows water into it and rusts in a couple of months. Do you know how much a fix for this issue is? 5 cents...just go to a local hardware store and buy the pictured below o-ring, put it into the cap for the battery on the igniter, and problem solved.

I took pictures near our old grill so you can see home much smaller it is.
