A Char- Broiled book
on August 10, 2012
This is a cookbook put out by Char-Broil and while you can use it with any grill there are many references to Char-Broil products, especially their "big Easy Oil-less Turkey Fryer - which I could never figure out how it would work, and Tru-infrared technology which is basically the ability to have different temperatures at different places on the grill, which if you have shelves or move food around on the grill also would work. But there are a lot of specific examples aimed at their own products.
You really already need to know some basics. For example, there are no instructions on how to start out and set up spit roasting, like precautions or hints to keep your meat from falling off. Charcoal grilling also seems to be an afterthought. Many of the directions just give gas grill and infra-red grill instructions.
Recipes include; chicken, veggies, sides, desserts, marinades, sauces and rubs. There is a page of resources and a good index. There are pictures for the recipes and there are the usuals and some different ones too, but most are similar to ones in other grilling cookbooks. We have enjoyed the beer-can chicken, grilled potato planks, Georgia caviar, and rice pudding with dark chocolate sauce. They are indicative of the type of recipe included - some do not require grilling.
If you have a Char-Broil grill especially an infrared one this would be fine. If you are a charcoal aficionado, you would be better off looking elsewhere. One really tires of statements such as" if you don't own one of Char-Broil's infrared gas grills..." though.
