Damper and grilling grate broke in less than two months
on May 30, 2017
I've owned this unit since April and used it about 5-6 times. Long story short, already two things have broken on it for me.
So, the first time I used it everything worked great. Next time I used it, the "tar" from the smoke caused the top damper to stick a little. No big deal, I'll just bang it a little with my palm to knock it loose. Well, that broke the plastic part in half which insulates it so you don't need a glove. It was very brittle. I didn't tap on it that hard, and it still broke. Not made out of material which should be used on a part which can get sticky from smoke.
That kinda sucked, but I don't mind since I usually have a grilling gloves around I can use. So, I used it a couple more times and then made some pizza with the separate pizza stone. Well, the grilling grate couldn't stand up to the heat (around 700 degrees F) and promptly broke when I lifted it with the supplied grate moving device. Thank goodness I didn't have it fall on my feet or bare skin to brand me!
I am going to contact the manufacturer and see what they will do for me and update this review if they stand behind the product, but, for the money, I would expect for this to hold up better. I kinda wish I wouldn't have cheaped out and went with another brand.
To be fair, this is a good idea and the food comes out well, but the temperature isn't as easy to control as I hoped and is still pretty expensive.
