From the Author
I wrote this book at the request of the publisher. We both believe that characters are the most important part of a novel. In a book series, it's the characters that keep the readers looking for the next book. While plot may drive the book, it is the characters that make the reader care about the book. And it is the characters the reader will remember long after she can't quite remember the plot.
Writing this book was a pleasure because it gave me the opportunity to express my thoughts on how one can make a memorable character. And to help with that, I included many examples. Each chapter concludes with some exercises to help cement the ideas illustrated in the chapter.
When an early buyer said, "I read it cover to cover. And then I went back and read it again, with my manuscript on the computer screen," I knew I had accomplished at least some of what I set out to do.
