I bought one of these a couple of years ago and sent it back because the base is so small it never stays stuck in place. I recently bought a Mazda Miata to play with on the weekends. That car is so small there is no place for anything not even a phone holder. I bought this holder again for that car because there wasn't room for any other type. I made a small mount that I screwed to the side of the console then drilled holes into the plate of the phone holder to screw it to the mount I made. It works perfect and is mounted strong with no chance of falling off. The charging aspect is a very good feature and perfect for my needs with this car. If you take the time to fabricate a usable mount then this is a great item. Otherwise it will never stay attached,

I love this phone mount! My previous mount was a wireless charger, but my new car is set up with an infotainment unit that the phone needs to plug into. I wanted something with the easiest connect and dis-connect because I hate fiddling with stuff every time I get in and out of the car. I really did a lot of research and decided this was the best gamble (it's so hard to know what it's really going to be like until you get it) I have now been using it for over 4 months.....Here's what I love about it -

1) The small base that mounts the unit to the car. So many mounts have huge bases that need a flat, smooth spot and car dashes have very limited options as to where you can put them. I hate having my mount on the top of the dash because it does partially block the view. With this one I was able to put it in just the perfect spot for access without distraction that didn't interfere with vents or other controls.
2) The ease of connection - the expanding (holding) part of the mount is an up-down action of the top part of the mount. I basically push it up with the top of my phone and then lower it down onto the connection. To release I use my fingers to "pinch" up to lift it off the connection and then I push up the phone to release it from the holder. Both are very smooth motions that takes less time than any other mount I've ever owned. I can easily grab and my phone and go!
3) You don't have to connect for it to hold the phone. I have a very short commute (less than 5 minutes) so most days I don't need to connect just for that drive - but I do like to have it handy for opening the garage door etc. I can set it in the mount with the phone behind the USB C connection and it stays there nicely
4) I find it to be very sturdy and stable, I have never had an issue with it moving while in use, nor have I ever been worried about it not holding the phone properly.
5) I like how slim it is when the phone is not in it - it doesn't junk up the look of my dash area.
If you have a "plug n play" infotainment unit in your car - I think this is the best mount you can get.

The only thing keeping me from raving about how amazing this thing is, is the cord adaptability. It works fine for me so far-great really- I just am concerned about longevity.

Why wouldn't you make the piece that holds the cable so the customer could change it out to a preferred cable of their liking or easily replaceable if broken?

They do say you can buy a new cord piece on their site but I have yet to see it. It appears you would have to buy the whole assembly again.

Complaints aside, this has made Ubering a breeze and it really is fantastic and simple!

'Charging Slowly,' No Android Auto

My USB port is in the center console. It comes from a short 3' extension from the back of the head unit. Pretty much any cable I use works for me, charges appropriately and launches Android Auto. This cable gave me the "charging slowly..." message and did not boot Android Auto. It worked exactly once, every other time my head unit would not recognize the phone.

Maybe this cord would work fine plugged directly to the back of a head unit, I don't know. But again I've used some pretty cheap cables this way without issue so this one giving issues isn't a great sign.

Also, it's fairly short. So if you were to run it to the center console, there is not enough slack to conceal the cables. So basically I would only recommend trying this cable if you're connecting it directly to your head unit. And if you do, I'd recommend connecting and disconnecting several times before reinstalling the head unit, to make sure it's actually going to work consistently. Again it worked once for me.

Also, on the design. While a great concept, it's fairpy flimsy and because of that I wouldn't really call it one hand operated. You kind of need to hold the thing steady with one hand.

Best no-hassle phone car mount with charging

The reason this product is the best is that mounting and unmounting your phone is an easy action 1-handed action: stick in the top and push up, slide down into the port. The phone is secure in the holder - the top can move about 1cm back and forward but it is not a problem. The hinge is excellent - the lock is very strong and can also be tuned to have some freedom to move a bit or to rotate to horizontal.

Mounting can be a bit difficult, especially if you want to mount it on a patterned surface. The bundled 3M 2-sided adhesive patch is supposed to be sufficient but I had trouble getting it to stay on for more than a few months on a patterned surface, but I bought a stronger 2-sided adhesive tape which has been holding fine. The advantage of the 3M patches is that they are easy to remove from the car, so you can even use this mount on a rental car.
