I think I got this book as a freebie, but after reading through it with my 9 year old son and 4 year old daughter, I would definitely spend $$ on it. With a chapter per day for Advent, the time invested was minimal, but the benefit great. After reading the chapter, there were either a few questions for discussing with my kids and/or an activity related to the story to do. These activities really connected us to the story or encouraged us to learn more, but we're so easy to do with no planning or very little set up. We learned along with Charlie and enjoyed the season of Advent more than ever before!

We'll even follow through with the leads and questions at the end of each piece because they are manageable and engaging! I'm super excited about this book and our boys will be too ;)

I thought this might be a good book for my family to do but my kids seem too old (14,11). They thought it to be for little kids. I was also hoping to find a Christian Advent book. I am not sure if this is supposed to be. On one of the days, it talks about "Mom's fairy garden". As a Christian family, we don't believe in fairies, nor do we make little gardens for them. I know people take that stuff seriously, so we don't go there.

I am currently reading this to my boys, ages 11 and 7. They are enjoying having a short story each night in preparation for Christmas. The story is sweet and meaningful. I wish there were some pictures in the book to share with my boys. Although he is enjoying the story, my 7 year old would probably enjoy it more if there were a few pictures.

The author uses language that is sweet without being cloying or preachy. She poses thoughtful questions and shows how the simplest of deeds can help impact the world for the better. I am so happy that we discovered this gem and I hope she writes many more. I would love to see something similar for the Lenten season!
