An imaginative urban fantasy, comparable to the Harry Potter series, except Charlie and his friends each have a special supernatural talent, and when they're not hunting monsters, have to cope with a normal school life. I especially enjoyed the weaving of old legends into this very modern adventure, which is deliciously dark enough to please older readers, yet remains family friendly.
I have not devoured a book as I have devoured this series since I read Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Price in 6 hours. These books are more than on par with, and honestly may just be better than, the Harry Potter series. (Sorry, JK.)
The McGannons have such a firm grasp on their characters and storytelling that I feel as if I am going through the events with Charlie and his friends and as if i know them personally. Every moment I am rooting for and worrying right along with them.
One reason these books are so captivating is the McGannons' mastery of cliff-hangers and plot twists. They leave just enough loose ends for a reader to be anticipating the next book, but enough tied up to be satisfied with the wait and they surprise me at every turn. Not to give to much away, but never think anything over over with this group.
Honestly, I hope this series never ends, even though I know it must, but I don't think I could every get tired of reading about Charlie and his friend adventures.
P.S. These guys host an awesome, lively, and interesting pod-cast on the subject of monsters!
I do hope the authors will continue with this series, but I fear it will be another forgotten series since book 4 was supposed to be released in 2014 :(
