I hope this is not the end as it seems chance has a lot more adventures to have. Then his sister is up & coming so the could be working together, I hope as that would be more awsome, not to forget his girlfriend Shade who is a lot of action herself.
I lived these books along with the story Ben has such a gift it draws you into it.
Who hasn't been the victim of the in crowd at high school. What if the"in crowd" was evil and trying to steal the souls of your friends? Well if that was your high school this book provides a little payback. If you were the "in crowd" thsi lets you relive your glory days.
You know Chance Fortunato just won't fit in at the elite preppy school for high society mages. Of course a few scholarship kids have to be let in. As long as they know their place and don't socialize above their station that is. This is the twenty first century after all and mages are as enlightened as other US citizens and just as snobbish as the worst of them. This gets even more complicated when evil magic is unleashed at the school and the obvious suspect is Chance with his dark magic background. But that very background may be their only chance to survive with his training and understanding. Can Chance find the real culprits before they hang him?
While reading this book I smiled and laughed at the humorous or endearing parts and cried more than once as I felt the characters' pain and loss. I felt anger and sorrow, joy and hope, and love for the characters brought to life with all their strengths and weaknesses, imperfections, failures and successes.
This is not a standalone novel. The previous books in the series are just as well written and provide necessary context needed to fully enjoy this book. I have thoroughly enjoyed reading The Demon's Apprentice series and highly recommended it. Ben Reeder is a great author and I look forward to reading more of his books in the future.
Charm School puts very rough-edged Chance in the middle of an upper crust magical boarding school and he ends up in the middle of a gnarly mystery, that, because of his rough background, pretty much only he can solve. I'm not sure that if you analyzed the story under a magnifying glass that the plot would hold together, but it was a very entertaining read -- fast-moving and magical.
a bit more depth and length to these stories, as this one seemed a bit uneven or rushed at times, but overall the author's formula
works quite well.
Several typos, minor grammatical errors, and misspellings present that knocks off a 1/2 star. e.g. Is it Draden, Dreaden, or Draeden?
I'm glad to proof-read the next one.
