From the Author
It takes a small village to write and publish a book. I am grateful for all those who expressed their excitement over early versions, reading chapter by chapter as I wrote them and providing feedback.
To my critique partners, Joyce Caylor, Cathy Matuszak, Tara Harlow, Judy McDonough, and Lydia Sharp, thank you for your patience and input as I reworked first chapters and struggled over back cover blurbs. Your willingness to share feedback and great ideas continues to make the journey fun and rewarding.
To friends and family, who have come from near and far to offer their support, thank you for believing in me and buying my books. Special thanks to Darlene Hritz and Lynn Shirk for beta reading and sharing my excitement. I am so blessed to call you friends.
To my children, Simon, Samuel and Ella, thank you for putting up with my daily ramblings and lack of meals.
And to my husband, for always being there to offer advice and a friendly ear. Thank you for never complaining when I ask for your help to cart books, set up displays, or stay up too late writing and wake you up. I can't imagine this journey without you by my side.

Poor Val, she has had a rough go of things for the past few years. Having followed a man to Cleveland who she thought was her future, only to be crushed under his heel, Val is no longer looking for anything other than safe. Her world is exactly as she wants it to be. Even if it is a little boring, at least her life is consistent and secure. When she meets Charlie she immediately writes him off as no good but in his relentless pursuit of her, she comes to find out there is more to him than meets the eye. She is just not ready for anything exciting or unpredictable.
Charlie knows that Val is just the person he needs on his team, even if he is unable to tell her the entire truth about why he is at the company. He also can’t help wanting to know more about the woman who seems to be immune to his charms. Someone is sabotaging the business, divulging company secrets, and Charlie must find the culprit! There is little time before the company will be pushed past the point of no return. In order to figure out what is happening Charlie needs eyes and ears on the inside. Someone like Val who is smarter than she is given credit for. Val can tell that he is holding something back but agrees to help him because he does seem sincere about wanting to help the company. Also, he really doesn’t give her a choice as he is unrelenting in his charming ways.
Such a hilarious story with Val trying to deny the attraction between her and Charlie all the while managing inter-office relationships with malicious and quirky characters. Then throw in her coming to terms with her “safe and reliable” fiancé, Val needs to choose which world she is going to pursue. After having her faith in herself shaken does she have what it takes to trust her heart?
I really found this story to be a romantic read with just the right amount of conflict to keep the story moving. It is not just a romance read though, it is about life, relationships, and learning to seize the day. The ending is climatic but also very satisfying. I recommend that you give this story a try and see if you too are Charmed by Charlie. 😉
This review is based on a complimentary book I received from Amanda Uhl, Author. It is an honest and voluntary review. The complimentary receipt of it in no way affected my review or rating.
3.5 charming stars
What a charming read this was!
Charmed By Charlie is an easy, quick, and fun read.
Val is working in marketing/production and loves her job. She is in a committed, safe relationship, with a guy who has no possibility of ever breaking her heart. Because he is not charming, he is not charismatic, he is not the super hot playboy type. In fact, he is the exact opposite and she is perfectly o.k. with that. Why? Because she had her heart broken and then trampled on in the worst possible way and will not risk that happening again.
Despite the turmoil and heart break of the past, she is happy. She is happy in her relationship, with her friendships, and in her job. Life is pretty much perfect at the moment. What could go wrong?
Enter Charlie Solanger. Charlie is working for Reynold's Paints as a favor to the company CEO. He is everything Val knows she can't trust. He is charming, extremely handsome, definitely the play boy type. He has heart breaker written all over him. Not only that but Charming Charlie has turned Vals safe little world upside down and inside out, from her job, to her friends, and even her relationship.
Val struggles between liking Charlie and extreme mistrust... but mostly she just avoids him by hiding in the ladies room. Is there really something brewing with Charlie or is he the devil in disguise? What secrets are being kept and will they make or break Val's perfect little world she has built? And why does she care so much about Charming Charlie when she is in love with and practically engaged to the spice making George?
Charmed is a cute and sweet story. I liked it. I thought it was the perfect light and enjoyable read. There is sweet romance, character growth, and even some intrigue!
The problem was I didn't LOVE it. I liked it. So, what kept me from loving his story? I didn't feel connected to the characters and I didn't feel their connection. I didn't feel any real emotion or feel like anything got below the surface. I also felt like the relationships were rushed. It seemed like there must have been things going on in a behind the scenes way... but we weren't privy to those moments. Instead of a slow build... it felt like no build at all. One second there was a foundation and the next a 20 story high rise. I felt like I missed out on the building phase. I also would have like to have known Charlie's thoughts. The author does a great job of letting us know in a round about way what Charlie must have been thinking via facial expressions etc., but I never felt like I KNEW Charlie. I really wanted to know him! Lastly... I wanted some sexy times, some steam, something more than a quick make out.
Even though I didn't love this book, I did like it and would recommend to anyone looking for that quick, light, and easy read.
