Can Lanie and Nick find their way home to each other or will their broken hearts be more than either one can handle.
Nick just lost his job as a cook and needs money for his daughter's college tuition. As money is something Lanie will have when she'll receive her inheritance she convinces Nick, a total stranger, to be her husband, so Lanie can save her childhood home. However, what will happen when her fake marriage starts to feel like a real one instead? Will Lanie finally find love or will Nick leave her as soon as he receives his money?
A Charmed Little Lie is an original romantic story. I loved the idea behind it, Nick and Lanie get married first and then they get to know each other. It's a fun subject and I enjoyed reading about it from the start. Lanie is a sweetheart. She's generous and kind and she's genuinely interested in people. Because of something that happened in her past she's afraid to let anyone come close and I kept hoping Nick would be the person who'd break down the walls around her heart. Nick has a complex relationship history of his own though and it isn't easy for Lanie to compete with his past. I felt they both should have a chance at happiness after everything they've been through. Nick is a troubled, but very gentle man. He deserves a much better life than the one he had before he met Lanie. I couldn't wait to see if she would give him a more promising future. They have plenty of chemistry and their connection is deep from the start, which is something I liked a lot.
Sharla Lovelace's writing flows easily. I read A Charmed Little Lie in one sitting. It's an interesting story filled with complicated relationships, schemes and unexpected twists and turns. I loved reading about Charmed and its inhabitants, it's a wonderful setting with fascinating festivals and a great gossip mill. I'm a big fan of small town romance and Sharla Lovelace combines this with another favorite topic, an unusual love story. I really enjoyed reading A Charmed Little Lie, it's a fabulous entertaining story.
I love the unexpected. I love how things can just happen, even when you don't want them too. For Lanie, unexpected wasn't the best thing on her list, but it made for a great story. The whole idea of this book was little off the wall, but hey when you lie to your aunt, you need to expect things will happen to have your lies come out. Lanie is this girl that needs to learn how to love, to rely on someone, to be able to live. She hasn't done that at all. She has tried to make her aunt happy and make up lies in the process to make her aunt feel that she is doing ok. When her aunt dies, it begins a whirlwind of what to do and how to fix what Lanie has lied about. This story has so much to it. How to appease a dead aunt, figure out how she is going to fix things, and on top of that how to fix the lies that have been told. Lanie has to come up with a husband so she can keep the house and the money that is left for her. How the heck is she gonna do that? Walk into a restaurant, see a cook get fired and offer him bucks to pretend to be her husband. what could go wrong? Lets just say one day has to be three months and there is a whole lot more at stake. Can they pull this off or will it be too much to handle?
Lanie is this girl that is scared to love. She saw it ruin her parents and she doesn't want that for herself. She wants to be independent. Not to rely on anyone. When she propositions Nick she thinks this will be the easiest three months of her life. Boy was she wrong. She learns what love feels like. How jealousy can be wrapped up into feelings that she didn't know that she had. She proves that she does need someone, she just never new she needed that extra person in her life to complete her. Nick is down on his luck at the beginning. He loses his job, wants to put his daughter through college, but just can't find a way to do it. When this plan comes into play all his dreams could come true. His problem is falling in too deep. He is such an awesome person. I loved him from the beginning. He was who he was and there was no changing him. They both had flaws, but they completed each other so well, that you stopped seeing them. The more this book developed, the more you got to see the depth of these characters.
You don't think it is going to be easy for them do you? Of coursce this will reading will have some loops that Lanie and Nick will have to go through. On top of that, you have cosusins that are trying to get their hands on everything that should be Lani's. You will have evil exes in play. Family that was never around and of coulrse the whole drama between Lani and Nick tryint to keep it professional. PeoPeiople change,, people are coniviving, but you learn everyone's true colors in this book and you have to love that.
There are serious scenes in this this book, but there is also a lot of funny actions and reactions. Some intense sexual chemistry, and your everyday problems you see whether you are married or not. You will love this story more and more as it goes on. I couldn't put it down because it kept my attentions all the way through the book. I can't wait to read the next book in this series because it is about Carmen and I loved her in this book and can't wait to see what happens in the next.
