About the Author

Jesse Thoma splits her professional time between graduate school and work. She is a project manager in a clinical research lab and spends a good amount of time in methadone clinics and prisons collecting data and talking to people.

Jesse grew up in Northern California but headed east for college. She never looked back, although her baseball allegiance is still loyally with the San Francisco Giants. She has lived in New England for ten years and has finally learned to leave extra time in the morning to scrape snow off the car. Jesse is blissfully married and is happiest when she is out for a walk with her wife and their dog, pretending she still has the soccer skills she had as an eighteen-year-old, eating anything her wife bakes, or sitting at the computer to write a few lines.

I don't know why many writers of lesbian fic feel the need to give their characters masculine sounding names. Alex, Jordan, Hunter, Jack, Rick, Jake ... if the character is butch or dominant, naturally she must have a male sounding name. Well this book went all out with HOLT LASHER. OMG! I don't normally do the "OMG"-it's right up there with "Holt Lasher". Why not Dash Riprock. Or some other equally gagging name. I thought at first that the writer meant this book to be a parody of lesbian books. I was rolling over laughing, at the scenes, the drama was silly. The story was laden with stereotypes. Female cop=butch lesbian. Holt is a bounty hunter who doesn't carry a gun, preferring to use her two fists. Isabelle is a fem who swoons over androgynous Holt and the butch cop. Too bad it was trying to be serious.
The mystery behind what is happening to Isabelle has been used in too many stories.
This is not a book I would ever want to read again.

Started this book and initially thought it was pretty unrealistic - kissing someone you just met after finding them in your backyard pool, getting shot at immediately? Left the book and read something else, but went back to give it a 2nd chance. Glad I did. It is well written, reminds me of Janet Evanovich books. Lots of action, suspense and witty, unusual characters. Could see this as a lesbian action/comedy film. Not familiar with this author, hope to see the follow-up novel.

I think this is Ms. Tomas' first book and it is awesome. "The Chase" is about bounty hunter Holt Lasher and CPA, Isabelle Rochat chance meeting and immediate meshing of the minds and hearts. Holt is a buff, tattooed, ass-kicking type of person. She doesn't carry a weapon except for her body. Isabelle was sent the wrong spreadsheet for one or her clients and it takes Holt's team help to figure out why Isabelle is being harassed at home and work. Holt is dashing and Isabelle is sexy. The co-plot has to do with them upbringings and family. You'll have a hard time putting this one down.

I love finding authors I have not read before. When I chose this book I was hoping for a small diversion only to become intrigued by the plot and characters. This book was well thought out and moved at a rapid pace which kept me involved until the end. I look forward to following these characters through more adventures.

The primary couple's initial meeting is a uniquely amusing yet action-packed scenario. I was definitely drawn into the dynamic events of this thoroughly gratifying book via an artfully droll and continuously exciting story. Since I read the second book first, inadvertently, I missed some of the potent elements underlying and permeating the close-knit relationship of Holt and Isabelle that I believed would have made my reading of book two even more enjoyable. Nevertheless this cohesive pair is clearly a compelling duo. Spectacularly entertaining!

Holt Lasher is flat out amazing. She has an incredible background, rich and peculiar parents, and a close group of extraordinary friends and coworkers. The intensity and thrill elements are certainly enhanced by Holt being a bounty hunter. Remarkably strong, agile, and impeccably honorable, she additionally has the most well-known and respected bail enforcement agency in Providence, Rhode Island. Plus her employees, though an unusual collection of men and women, are rather good at what they do, currently notably respectable, and astoundingly dedicated to Holt. Frankly, I truly think Holt is a super hero. Magnificent!

Isabelle Rochat is a very successful accountant. She is above and beyond meticulous and especially thorough. That proves to be a bit uncomfortable for one of her main clients. Right from the start, Isabelle is bombarded with a rapid series of events that is so not like her world of numbers and balance sheets. Furthermore, much to her consternation, she is unquestionably attracted to Holt who is in her own words beautiful in an androgynous, female Adonis kind of way. It seems Isabelle's world has been completely discombobulated on almost all fronts. Her stalwart inner core is certainly tested nearly to her limits.

I loved this book. It's an old-fashioned Chandler-esque page turner. Like Raymond Chandler, Jesse Thoma is a master of the witty, and sometimes sarcastic, aside; however Thoma is more intelligent and sophisticated than Chandler ever was. "The Chase" is a quick-read with a dynamic plot and characters that come to life and make you care about them and want to find out what happens next. It's thrilling, romantic, and captivating. I was sad when it was over and hope for one or more sequels. You can't say that about many novels. The only problem is that there is no such thing as a gay man who is an auto mechanic. And, if there is, he doesn't have greasy hands or a greasy shirt. You'll have to prove that one Jesse! Oh well, he wasn't a main main character anyway...

So get some popcorn or oreos and milk (or both!), or, better yet, get a hot wiener!(You'll understand when you read the book) and order this for your kindle or buy a copy and read it! You'll have a great time! Now I need a hot wiener...
