Standalone though part of a larger series
Told from the male POV
No major editing issues
I have loved this entire series but this book is by far my favorite. I think the fact it is completely from the males POV played a part in that. Eric was not only hysterical, but a typical male. He banter with Jean and his brother had me laughing out loud. I also think the author nailed his "thoughts". HYSTERICAL
Beyond being funny though the story was also super sweet. You get to watch a guy who cares about no one but himself fall head over heels for a girl and her daughter. Everything starts to revolve around them, even when there is nothing intimate going on between Eric and Jean.
This book is very swoonworthy. You have to add it to your reading list.
Eric is a man whore. He’s not dependable and doesn’t always make the smartest decisions. And he owns it. So when Eric’s business partner Nell, has her friend Jean move to town, he is inexplicably drawn to Jean. But Jean is off-limits. She’s pregnant and has the very real threat of Nell cutting off his cajones. 😉 Yet, that doesn’t stop Eric from sharing his heart of gold and being a good friend to Jean and her baby.
“But, you know … just out of interest,” I said. “Do you think I’m a manwhore with no concept of responsibility, incapable of having a meaningful relationship, who just uses women because I wouldn’t know real commitment if it bit me on the ass?” Alex’s eyes went real wide. “That’s what Nell says, huh?” asked my brother in a low voice. “Basically.”
As months pass, Jean and Eric’s friendship starts to turn into more. But Eric has his reservations. He’s flawed. He doesn’t believe that he’s good enough for Jean, allowing Nell’s negative perception of him to cloud his “worthiness” of being a relationship with Jean despite all the positive advances Jean has made toward him.
Being told in Eric’s POV, I got to see his insecurities, quirks, and strengths. He’s refreshing and bold to own his prior indiscretions and courageously concludes that he cannot control what others feel, only his reaction. So he makes an effort to reform himself. It is in this reformation that made me respect his character more. I wanted to cheer for him when so many continued to doubt him. It was through his friendship with Jean, with her quiet encouragement, that Eric gains more confidence and starts to evolve into a better person. Reading about that evolution really won my heart over and has me falling for Eric as much as Jean did!!
This is the 3rd book in this inter-connected series of contemporary romance books, but it can be read as a stand-alone.
BONUS: crossover appearances by Stage Dive — a rock band from Kylie’s other book series —was so much fun to read.
