Cassidy Pope’s life has not been an easy one. She spends the majority of the time as child both verbally and physically abused by someone that should have loved and protected her. This left huge scars and insecurities for Cassidy. She doubts herself and her self-esteem is practically nil.
Cassidy broke my heart. She was pushed down and hurt so many times; she truly believed she was unlovable and unworthy. Even as Zach loved her, she doubted herself. I loved Zach. He was patient, sweet, caring and loving. He was the strength Cassidy needed.
Cassidy’s one light in her life has always been Zach. They have known each other since they were kids. Zach is aware of what Cassidy endures and always stands by her. As adults, they are set to be married, but Cassidy’s insecurities get the best of her and she runs.
Zach is left heartbroken and angry. He has always loved Cassidy and he is determined to show her she is deserving of so much more. Regardless of what others and especially Cassidy believe. Their journey was heartbreaking and emotional, but pulls you in right from the start.
I loved the banter between Zach, Cassidy and Rylee (Zach’s sister) and their friends. This book will touch you in so many ways. The subject matter is hard to read at times, but this was Cassidy and Zach’s journey. It was full of angst and heartbreaking, but also hopeful. It is a story of love, hurt, and hope. This author is quickly becoming a must read author for me.
Cassidy Pope has had a tough life, watching her alcoholic father beating (literally) into her that there is no love in the world, and her mother turned to alcohol to avoid the problem. Her only solace is her neighbor kids, Zack, and Rylee, the Stafford twins. Deeply insecure, despite Zack's love for the past twelve years, Cassidy did the runaway bride on the eve of her marriage to Zack. But Zack had made Cassidy a promise... Wherever she ran... he will follow. And on the way, family secrets will be laid bare, payoffs will be revealed, hearts will be broken... and healed. But will there be a happily ever after?
The family drama was quite good, and since body will actually say what they mean, somewhere along the way the message got twisted. It is an emotional journey and you'll come to sympathize for both characters.
In this novel, it starts out on Cassidy and Zack's wedding day. But Cassidy gets scared away by her own messed up past and the words Zack's mother continues to fill her mind with and ends up running away. But Zack will not let Cassidy run. They have known each other since they were children and they have been through so much together. So Zack puts together a plan to win Cassidy back and to put her mind at ease in hopes that she will still marry him. I am not going to give away anything else her, this is definitely one for your bookshelf! While you are at it, pick up all of D. Kelly's books because she is brilliant!
