“Shalvis has done it again! Her magnetic writing will hook readers within just the first few pages. San Francisco is magical all in itself, but the wishing fountain in her Heartbreaker Bay series makes it all the more surreal.” (RT Book Reviews (top pick))
“Shalvis’s fans will love spending Christmas in San Francisco’s Cow Hollow neighborhood with her now-familiar gang of lovable Heartbreaker Bay misfits.” (Publishers Weekly)
“With her Heartbreaker Bay books, Shalvis has created a terrific crew of friends, each more lovable (and deserving of love) than the last.” (Entertainment Weekly)
From the Back Cover
Meet cute . . .
Run for the hills—temporarily.
That’s Colbie Albright’s plan when she flees New York for San Francisco. Wrangling with her crazy family by day and writing a bestselling YA fantasy series by night have taken their toll. In short, Colbie’s so over it that she’s under it. She’s also under the waters of a historic San Francisco fountain within an hour of arrival. Fortunately, the guy who fishes Colbie out has her looking forward to Christmas among strangers. But she’s pretty sure Spencer Baldwin won’t be a stranger for long.
Make merry . . .
Spence’s commitment to hiding from the Ghosts of Relationships Past means he doesn’t have to worry about the powerful—okay, crazy hot—chemistry he’s got with Colbie. Just because she can laugh at anything, especially herself . . . just because she’s gorgeous and a great listener . . . just because she “gets” Spence immediately doesn’t mean he won’t be able to let Colbie go. Does it?
. . . and hope for a miracle
Now the clock’s ticking for Colbie and Spence: Three weeks to cut loose. Three weeks to fall hard. Three weeks to figure out how to make this Christmas last a lifetime.

Colbie and Spence are smitten with each other from the beginning and you go along watching them develop a friendship that turns to love happily ever after! Of course, all the other characters we have come to love are there to give you great belly laughs and tears as they love one another and help the couple along. Elle is crazy as ever. Colbie comes to Heartbreaker Bay to get away from her family, work and life and manages to find more love and acceptance from family, friends, work and life than imagined. Spence thinks he's not capable of being able to focus on work and a relationship but Colbie shows him he can and especially when he realizes he didn't know the meaning of a love forever until he meets Colbie. Well, sigh.....I loved reading it and could read it again and again. Thanks Ms. Shalvis. This one needs to be on Passionflix next Christmas.
Colbie needed to get away from her life but she never thought that not long after landing 3000 miles from home and all that was weighing her down she would be swimming in a water fountain and meeting a handsome stranger.
Spencer's and Colbie are so much alike you can see that they are perfect from the beginning but it takes them a little longer to figure it out and all that time you can't help but truly love Spencer just that much more.
If you haven't read this series start at the beginning you will love all these books and just love all the characters but Spencer's will melt your heart.
I haven't read any of the other books in the Heartbreaker Bay series though I plan to go back now. I always enjoy Jill Shalvis books and this was no exception. Colbie and Spencer are two of my favorite hero/heroine prototypes, geeky and totally involved in their work, and I loved how they learned to adapt to each other's needs and make their relationship work. This is a lovely story for the holidays or any time.
Spence has become more like the drones he’s perfecting than a man; everyone in his life taking care of him and catering to his every unspoken wish. Colbie is the perfect woman for him, someone that he can look after for a change. Someone that makes him want to be a well rounded man, just as Spence makes Colbie realize what a complete disaster her life has become, through nobody’s fault but her own, and she knows it. Cue Eddie and his special brownies, some misguided but well meaning friends, fire suppression sprinklers, and of course it wouldn’t be a Heartbreaker Bay novel without some sort of half dressed poker in the basement. I loved this book!
Heartbreaker Bay is a small community in a big city that has quirky characters and a whole lot of heart. Spencer Baldwin is a genius that believes he cannot have both.... Success and love. That theory was blown apart the moment he meets Colbie. An author escaping New York to find her muse to write another book with a deadline quickly approaching and a very similar set of beliefs about career and love life.
Just reading their story made me feel all those feels that a fan of contemporary fiction/romance look for. 5 stars! Highly recommend!
No cliffhanger, hea, standalone. But the series is definitely worth your time and money.
I voluntarily received this arc in exchange for an honest review.
