CHASING MAVERICKS is the inspirational true story of surfing phenom Jay Moriarity (newcomer Jonny Weston). When 15 year old Jay discovers that the mythic Mavericks surf break, one of the biggest waves on Earth, is near his Santa Cruz home, he enlists the help of local legend Frosty Hesson (Gerard Butler) to train him to survive it. As Jay and Frosty embark on their quest to do the impossible, they form a unique friendship that transforms their lives, and their quest to tame Mavericks becomes about more than surfing. Chasing Mavericks was made with the help of some of the biggest names in the surfing world, and features some of the most mind-blowing wave footage ever captured on film.
The music of the film is derived from the soundtrack-taking place in a time of rock n' roll (the 90s) in which some of the best Alternative Rock was recorded and released. Artist such as Mazzy Star, The Butthole Surfers, Sponge, Dinosaur Jr., The Lemonheads, Matthew Sweet and more… While filming Mavericks, the director was looking for a new song that would communicate the raw emotion that faces the end of the film and he found that when he stumbled across a new song from Scottish born artist, Greg Holden called "I Need An Energy". It was serendipitous Holden was just coming-off a milestone success with the song "Home," that he had co-written for 2012 American Idol winner Phillip Phillips - which incidentally went to #1 on Billboard's Singles and Heat Seeker charts; becoming the biggest selling culmination song from any American Idol in history. "I Need An Energy" is an honest reflection of one person having guidance by a higher power and doing what you set out to do and accomplishing it, just as Jay Moriarity did. The soundtrack to the film is composed by Chad Fischer (Garden State, The Lorax).

I like the song “I Need An Energy” written and performed by Greg Holden. Very powerful music and lyrics to honor the life of Big Wave Surfer Jay Moriarity. Best describes Jay’s experience with life’s turbulence and his desire to share the wave and live like a true Maverick. “There's not a thing that you could say that could talk me down, From all the things that I eat, sleep and dream about.” I need a lift, I need a shake, I need to find another chance that I can take...” “I need an Energy!” - Live Like Jay!!!
Ordered it yesterday, came in the mail today. I did not pay extra for overnight shipping.I absolutely loved the Movie, The disc went from mailbox to my CD player. Good time tunes,reminds me of my Cali days.. all thats missing is my toes in the sand. A previous review dissed the cover it came in but I don't mind the cardboard sleeve..easier to store in my car :) ready for my road-trip to Cali now
Makes me wish the movie had lasted in my Binghamton, NY area for more than a measly 3 weeks so I would have had an opportunity to see it in between bouts of inclement weather and my child being home sick from school. Anyway read the autobiography by Frosty Hesson which was excellent and a motivation for remaining a positive person whatever the odds...so naturally as I await the movie on dvd I decided I needed the soundtrack and was not disappointed. The songs selected are refreshingly unique...especially Mazzy Star.
Having watched the movie (SEVERAL times) the music grew on me and I am not disappointed in the sound track. The best thing about music, for me, is how it makes me feel. Since I smiled so many times during the movie, I found myself doing the same thing listening to the sound track because of how it made me feel. And it is feel good music because of the movie....enjoying it on a regular basis!
Great movie, good Soundtrack! However, they are missing a couple good ones from the movie (Offspring) I believe. Mazzy Star songs are amazing, soft, but enchanting. The rest is pretty good.
Great music classics ,to go along with a great movie you can also get at amazon, brings back memories . What more can you ask for except every song on the cd is a great song...W.F.R
I absolutely loved the film and the soundtrack has all the songs that I remember. This was a definite buy and I am so glad I purchased it. Now I am waiting for the dvd to come out.
