4.5 Bare Naked Stars
I LOVED Chasing Serenity. Eden Butler did such an amazing job developing the characters. I was hooked from the first chapter. I couldn’t put the book down. I couldn’t wait to find out what was going to happen next.
Autumn is 23 and has seen more than most see their entire life. She is a graduate student assistant teaching at the local University. She is very proud to be a book geek along with her closest friends. I just love her strong stubbornness.
Declan is a sophomore HOT rugby player recruited from Ireland. He is sexy, alpha male, but has the biggest heart. Did I mention he was HOT and Irish? (swoon)
Tucker is Autumn’s ex boyfriend. All he cares about is what’s best for him. He never cared what Autumn wanted or needed in their relationship. He is back in town to be the Rugby captain. He wants to win Autumn back.
Chasing Serenity has the best secondary characters. Autumn’s girlfriends are so much fun and are her family. I really enjoyed them and can’t wait to see them develop more in the upcoming books.
Autumn’s mom was killed in a car accident five months ago and Autumn was in the car with her. It’s heartbreaking to watch her rebuild her life. When she was a teenager her father just up and left her and her mom. He gave her no explanation as why he was leaving. This crushed Autumn and turned off her trust in guys. The year before her mom died her boyfriend (Tucker) just left town to pursue his career without any thought to Autumn. Between all these tragic events Autumn is very closed off to anyone except her closest friends.
Tucker thinks he can come back and pick up where he left off.Read more ›
-Very good writing!
- Few grammatical errors
- Great Hero and friends
- No cliffhanger!!!
- The main female character. She got annoying often.
- It was quit repetitive for the first 50% or more of the book.
- Nothing really happens until 65% in. Sure there is some sexual tension between the H and h but that's it. I felt like I read the same conversation over and over with the two main characters.
- While her writing is very good I felt it was almost too descriptive and there was A LOT of inner dialogue. I was being told, not shown.
- Never felt connected emotionally with the characters. I never had huge anxiety or butterflies with them.
- Finally, when something does happen it's just too late and not all that shocking. And the way Autumn reacts is over the top.
I wanted to love this book. It had so much potential but it fell flat for me.
The world building was superb to me. I loved Cavanaugh. I want to visit this place. I also love the set up of the rugby culture.
I love the characters, esp Autumn. Great voice. Autumn's internal conflicts are well drawn and fleshed in terms of what drives her. And the side characters seem like people I could hang out with. Love Layla and Sayo! I really like when I'm reading something and I have an unnatural pining to get back to the story whenever I'm away from it... and/ or want to hang out with the characters after the story ends. That to me is the mark of superb writing.
This story has it all.
Autumn has had a life full of heartache. Her father left when she was 14 and she was recently in a serious car accident that left her injured, physically and emotionally. Declan has also suffered loss in his life but together they can overcome these things and they make a great team…as soon as Autumn stops being so stubborn, that is.
For the most part, I liked Autumn but she had moments that tested my patience and sanity. I really loved Declan. He was a great, solid character that you couldn’t help but fall for. The plot was pretty good and somewhat original but it had a way of lulling you into a false comfort because the big secret that was revealed at the end will definitely make you jump to attention. It was a twist I definitely wasn’t expecting.
I think it’s a great story but it was very wordy, so much inner monologue that it seemed to drag on at times.
I should also mention that seeking serinty is a stand alone!
