But I knew that when it was all over, Flynn would be there. he was my beginning.
My happily ever after.
Chasing the Tide picks up when Ellie returns home from college. She's feeling better, but hates being back. She's never felt like this was her home, until she sees Flynn and realizes home is where Flynn is.
Everything is going well, but Ellie slowly resorts to her old ways-her anger, her self doubt, her drinking. The ghosts of both of their pasts comes and their story isn't easy to read. There are so many times I broke down and cried, especially reading Ellie's past. The pain stays with you and doesn't leave.
There are so many places in the book I wanted to smack her! But I understand her pain. Wellston is a place of bad memories. A place she made several mistakes. But it's also where Flynn is and has settled into. He's an art teacher at the college and loves his job. Honestly Flynn is too funny and swoon worthy in this book. You can't help but fall more and more in love with him.
I wish we saw more of Flynn! Seriously I love him and you will too! Hands down a wonderful 5 star read.
Chasing the Tide began with Ellie coming back home to Flynn after graduating college. It had been three years since she left and in that time they have managed to maintain a long-distance relationship. The story was told through a combination of flashbacks and present day scenes. While Ellie and Flysn were certainly happy to be together again, there was so much the pair had to work through in order to build a future. Their journey continued to be full of highs and lows. There were moments when my heart was bursting with joy and others when it was breaking.
Although the last thing Ellie wanted to do was return to her hometown, her heart belonged to Flynn. He was her home. Wellston was where he needed to be, so she sacrificed her own desires in order to be with him. I thought that was incredibly selfless of her. Unfortunately, the lack of job opportunities in Wellston only helped fuel her discontent. The conflict she faced within herself was intense. Flynn was her world, but she waivered in the knowledge that his love may not be enough. She felt lost while Flynn seemed settled and happy.
My heart went out to Ellie as we were given a better glimpse of her childhood in flashbacks.Read more ›
Wouldn't read this book as a standalone but rather a sweet and further educational conclusion that filled whatever gaps and loose ends that the first book didn't.
Mainly told in the heroine POV with clever back and fourth between past and present. Hero POV's were few and far between but thoughtfully placed. Although I give this book the same star rating as the first, I did like the first one better purely due to it being a totally new concept of romance reading and was refreshing to be educated on issues I never had enough awareness about. This sequel story was well written and thought out but I already new what to expect being a sequel however, I didn't want to unfairly take anything away from the great storytelling so felt it fair to rate it equally as I did the first book.
A. Meredith Walters has done an amazing job of portraying the complex relationship between Ellie and Flynn. Every relationship has its struggles, but Ellie and Flynn have obstacles that most couples don’t have to overcome. Ellie has had a difficult past. She was bounced from foster home to foster home after her mother abandoned her. She has always believed that she is unworthy of being loved.
Flynn’s Asperger’s Syndrome is something that Ellie has had to get used to. He isn’t like the average man. His life is based on routine, schedules, and predictability. He is brutally honest, he doesn’t pick up on social cues, and he often blurts out whatever he is thinking. But what he does do is accept Ellie for who she is, he shows her love (even though he has difficulty expressing it verbally), and he genuinely enjoys being with her.
When Ellie returns to Wellston, she is faced with mixed feelings. She wants nothing more than to be with Flynn, but Wellston holds many bad memories for her that she would rather move on from. Unfortunately, she realizes that Flynn will never leave his home, his job, or his security. Ellie wants to have the opportunity to reinvent herself, have a career, but she also knows that she wants and needs to have Flynn in her life.Read more ›
