I received a copy of "Chasing Victory" from NetGalley and the publisher in exchange for my honest review.
Everybody’s chasing Victory: a power-hungry scientist, a corrupt conglomerate, and her own government.
Victory Winters is on the run. A world-renowned geneticist, her mission involves conquering disease and improving quality of life. But a co-worker has been murdered, putting Victory and her mission in danger. Chasing her are all sorts of men who want to recruit and control her, manipulating her genetic secrets and research for their own corrupt purposes.
Naval officer Tristan Farraday is undercover investigating Biotec, a conglomerate that trumpets a better tomorrow in its bright, shiny annual reports. But Tristan’s bosses suspect that beneath Biotec’s carefully-managed exterior lies more than simple violations of a few experimental protocols.
Farraday is following a trail of murder, kidnapping, and blackmail. The trail leads him to Victory, who has been forced into Biotec’s world. Can Tristan chase down the truth and win the race for Victory?
Joanne Jaytanie hit the ground running with this series. The first gives those that follow a lot to live up to. With characters that are multidimensional and a plot that moves quickly and smoothly from scene to scene. Once you begin reading you will not want to put this book down. Chasing Victory has something for everyone, romance, paranormal aspects, intrigue, suspense, action, adventure, evil sociopaths with megalomaniac tendencies, heroes willing to give everything to protect those they love and dobermans. Some how Jaytanie manages to meld all these aspect to bring the reader a story that draws you in and makes you feel you are a part of the story. My rating is 4.5 out of 5 stars. I look forward to reading "Peyton's Pursuit" to see where this series goes next.
Responding to a cryptic phone call from an old college classmate, Victory Winters, veterinarian and geneticist, makes her way through the foothills of the Olympic Mountains to the agreed upon meeting point. Spotting him from a distance, Victory's excitement quickly turns to dread when shots ring out.
To make matters worse, Victory observes a local police detective at the scene – and not in a law-enforcement capacity, either. She can’t go to the cops, and she’s terrified the killers know she witnessed the murder. Needing a safe space to retreat to, Victory flees to her sister, Payton, who is residing in a motorhome at the San Francisco Fairground for a dog show.
Author Joanne Jaytanie is off and running with a tension-driven novel, opening with a gripping scene. Jaytanie sets the stage for her story by featuring Victory—a vet who combines telepathy with acupuncture to heal dogs. Victory is also close to finding “a genetic link between the canine world and the human world," an endeavor that has promising potential to cure diseases in humans. This work of hers makes her a hot commodity - so hot, in fact, others will go to great lengths to gain control of her and her work.
Two entities are indeed keeping track of our heroine. One, Tristan Farraday, a special ops hunk from the U.S. military sent to protect Victory. And second, a nefarious group headed by the malicious Lawrence Braxton, a genetics corporation. Of course, our gal doesn’t know about Braxton’s intentions when he sends her a rather flattering job offer which is where the proverbial screws tighten, and the story takes flight.
Jaytanie shifts character POVs which increases tension gives her the opportunity to develop her characters and drives the story forward. There are some proofreading errors, but on the whole, this book is a good start for the first in the series. Jaytanie adds chapter cliffhangers, sprinkles in romance and everything sinister, and proves her worth through rich descriptions and excellent dialogue all to produce a flurry of narrative twists to make a fast, fun read.
While the overarching plot continues in the next book, Payton's Pursuit, Chasing Victory wraps up the main arc quite nicely and can be read as a standalone. I am looking forward to reading the rest of the series. I've read several books by Joanne Jaytanie and have enjoyed all of them. I urge you to read her books. You won't be sorry.

as this story explores the science of telepathy and genetics and finds time to throw in some romance.
Victory is one of 3 sisters. The Winters. Their mother and father both killed in a car accident all three have inherited their home and the Winters Corporation. Their mother was a biologist and geneticist. Victory also works this field but not with her family, she works with Claremont Research who are looking at helping with cures for both humans and dogs by using their genetics.
All was fine for Victory until out of the blue after 5 years of nothing, her college boyfriend contacts her for help. She and Jeffery didn't see eye to eye on aspects of life going forward. They were to meet at their old picnic spot. Victory was there first but hid when she heard angry voices. Jeffrey was one voice, she could hear 2 more, one she thought she knew.
Things went badly so Victory hid and then ran when they left. Enter Tristan Farraday and his team. They were tracking Jeffrey. Tristan and his team all come from the armed forces and have various skills but on top of their forces training, they have other less explainable skills. Tristan can pick up scents, he also has telepathy with his brother who was their boss.
They figured out what had happened and found an unusual scent, lavender and chamomile. The scent cone was weak but Tristan is an excellent tracker, getting to Victory's hiding spot. The team did research and found Victory as a connection.
Victory had gone to her sister Payton, who was showing some of their dogs at a few shows.
Both parties follow her to Payton. Tristan was on his own but Dave Anderson had a few guys with him. Tristan however was able to make contact with them first.
Following to a meeting between Victory and Anderson he finds Victory has been knocked out and kidnapped.
They track them to an island near Hawaii. Here Tristan contacts Victory and they hatch a plan to get him in.
Best laid plans don't always go well and Victory is taken again several more times but Tristan is always on her trail.
It has some extremely well written scenes, that enhance the situations and gives the characters some depth. It was hard to put down. A very enjoyable read.
The story has a great ending but the sisters have more to come.
The story continues 8 months on in Book 2 Payton's Pursuit.
