This brief synopsis of the battles of Chattanooga and Chickamauga is by a then-Captain in the Union Signal Core stationed at Moccasin Point west of the city of Chattanooga.
Much of the account addresses in detail the movements of troops during the battles. The author necessarily uses the names of many field grade officers, many of which will not be recognized today.
His annoyance at the impatience of Grant and Lincoln is obvious and at the end he includes a glowing (and deserved) tribute to General George Thomas (aka “The Rock of Chickamauga
I like to have facts presented from diaries of the actual participatents. The author also uses very descriptive words of the lands, rivers and the mountains in the area.
