*This is Reckless*
Team Drewtney for the WIN! Kennedy Fox has done it again! Checkmate: This is Reckless is the perfect blend of friends to lovers romance, humor, emotion, and of course, page melting sexy times! This is the first book in Drew and Courtney's duet, so consider that your warning if you're not a fan of cliffhangers! We were introduced to these two in Travis & Viola's books, Checkmate: This is War and This is Love, but this duet can be read as a stand alone.
I loved watching Drew and Courtney blur the lines of their friendship. Courtney's feelings towards Drew are no secret and she definitely wins the most patient while pining for your best friend award. I will admit that there were times I was frustrated by Drew, but it was all worth it to see Drew finally open his eyes to his toxic relationship with Mia and see who was really there all along. Yes, there's some angst and drama, but there's also hilarious witty banter and smokin' hot chemistry.
All our favorite (and not so favorite) characters are back and a few new ones are introduced too. I definitely enjoyed getting to revisit with Travis and Viola and I'm really intrigued by Logan's story. I wouldn't mind one bit if he got his own story or if there was a spin off series featuring Courtney's brothers. Just saying ;) I cannot wait for book 2, Checkmate: This is Effortless, because that ending was a gut punch! I'm still reeling a bit from those last few paragraphs (seriously, oh hell no!!!), but I trust Kennedy Fox and so I'm just going to sit back and enjoy the ride! ;)
*This is Effortless*
I could not wait to get back to Drew and Courtney after the conclusion of This is Reckless to see how their story ends. Checkmate: This is Effortless was an emotional and action filled story that picks up right where book 1 left off. It is the second book in the Checkmate duet and is not a stand alone and should be read after This is Reckless.
Oh Deputy. I didn't think it was possible to love Drew more, but I was so wonderfully wrong. We've seen the cocky alpha cop and brother, but this time around he showed a more protective, vulnerable, and sweetness that left a goofy grin on my face for most of this book. Seriously, Drew and Courtney are friends to lovers gold. He's not perfect and may not always make the right decisions, but his heart is ALWAYS in the right place. I love that when he commits, he's all in.
Courtney needs to be real. I would love a BFF like her and she's one of my most favorite heroines ever. She's smart, sassy, funny, and incredibly loyal. I love that she nurtures her relationship with Drew just as much as her friendships with Viola and Kayla. #squadgoals for sure. She has some of the best dialogue too and Kennedy Fox never disappoints with their sexy and hilarious banter! I really love her quirky and loving family too and hope that this isn't the last we hear about them, especially Jackson and Evan.
Sorry this review is purposely vague, but I really don't want to ruin some of the amazing surprises and twists that the authors have thrown into Drew and Courtney's journey. Just rest assured that you will laugh, swoon, gasp, have a panic attack or two, and then feel all warm and fuzzy. Some things were a little over the top and the story stalled a bit in the middle for me, but I did enjoy the suspense and mystery in this book. Though this is the end of Drewtney's story, I know we will continue to get updates on them and Traviola. Speaking of Travis and Viola, their appearance in this book is awesome!! Travis and his super... yeah, you'll have to read the book ;) I can't wait to for Logan and Kayla's story next!
We are in for a treat with the story of Courtney and Drew. Courtney is the bubbly Texan girl who has been desperately in love with Drew for only lord knows how long. Poor Drew, the hot Sacramento Police officer that can never make heads or tails of woman because he is so blinded by the infamous, Mia Montgomery aka the bitch who needs to DIE! Although the book has a slow beginning (more than likely because Mia won't bounce), we are finally given what we want Drew finally really "sees" the love that he has for Courtney. The way these two interact with each other is fascinating to watch. They are playful and funny to start with, but all turns into something more.
If you have read the first set of books, you are well aware that of Drew's toxic relationship with the infamous Mia Montgomery. Now I am sure I can speak for all of us when I say, Mia has got to go! Drew finally comes to his senses! Glory Hallelujah. As Drew and Courtney grow closer to one another, Drew is able to see the negative effect that his relationship has had on everyone around him including himself. With this realization we are FINALLY about to be rid of her for good or are we?
KF also takes that time to show us a little bit about how Drew's job affects his family and now Courtney. Drew has an altercation with perp that ends up being his and Courtney's worse nightmare. KF does not glance over this event and sweep the event other the rug. They take the time to show the effects that these events have on both the officer and their families. Now this is a romance novel, but we are given a glimpse of what could happen. In doing so, we are shown a more strengthened relationship between the two main characters.
Would I recommend this? Yea, well I kind of already have. I would even say that I am a slightly bigger fan of Courtney and Drew than Viola and Travis, so I am excited to see how they are going to complete the story. Thank heavens that I have graciously been provided with an ARC from Kennedy Fox for an honest review of "This is Effortless" because as always KF is a cliffy bitch and leaves us hanging with nowhere to go with this ending. What has crazy Mia done this time? Well be sure to come back and check out my review of the next book in the series in a couple of days.
This is Effortless: It’s finally here! Words can not explain how excited I am to be given the opportunity to review this book before its release! I have been sitting on pins and needles since I finished “This is Reckless” to see where we will be taken with the story of Courtney and Drew and most importantly, what will happen to the character everyone needs to hate Mia Montgomery. The witty banter, funny moments, and just good old fashion love story is still there for us but they are able to give us a little bit more. Kennedy Fox adds an edge to this story that was not expected in order to gives us a fast paced and action oriented love story without sacrificing the true focus on love between Courtney and Drew.
We pick up right where we left off in the last book to continue our adventures. However, Kennedy Fox does not rush the romance between the two main characters. We are able to watch their love grown into something more. Something bigger than the two of them, or what we can even say a love the transcends the test of time. Like any other couple, Courtney and Drew had their ups and downs in order to get to their happy ending. However, Mia (oh crazy) is relentless in her pursuit of Drew and now even her revenge tactics again Courtney. The couple is tested beyond what normal couples have to deal with, but will they be able to remain strong with this new more aggressive threat standing in their way? I don’t know about you, but even with knowing the ending now I always knew these two could make it through anything if they stayed together. Drew and Courtney could conquer the world, as long as they tried to do it together.
Now Mia, I am not going to spoil this book for you, but YES! Kennedy Fox is able to have Mia still be in the forefront of our minds without having us focus on her and miss what is happening between Courtney and Drew. We discover aspects of Mia and her personality during this book that we are not given in the previous ones. This possibly gives us a better understanding of Mia and why she behaves the way that she does toward those around her. Now that’s not an excuse for her actions nor do I forgive her for being psycho, but it does explain something for me. In doing so, we are all given closure in the Mia situation. Let just say there is no bad feelings from this lady on how things went down, Mia had it coming!
I am sad for the end of Courtney and Drew’s story, but I am excited to see what KF has in store for us with their next couple. Again in true cliffy fashion they have left us hanging! Now go and pre-order NOW, you must read this when it is released. There is no waiting for this book because it is worth it! Actually go back and read everything all over again, I know I am going to do that right now!
