So while you don't need to read the first two books in this series I strongly and I mean strongly suggest you do as they are FANTASTIC. It will also help give you more of an understanding with the characters in this book.
Courtney and Drew I have been dying for their story to be told after meeting them in the first two books. I literally devoured this one, didn't stop reading for even a second. Walked into a wall going to get something to drink because I just refused to put it down. Took it to the bathroom with me, TMI yes probably don't really care, hahah.
Courtney oh my gawd I LOVE HER, she is my hero. Sassy, hilarious down to earth I want to be her best friend. I swear I see elements of myself in her. Every emotion she went through I could see myself going through given I was in the same situation as her. Drew OH DREW. Seriously SEXY COP what more could you ask for and completely clueless to the fact that he is HOT. I mean I flove Travis he is the KING after all but Mr. Fisher I mean sexy, protective and just all around great guy. I mean sometimes even too nice and forgiving if you ask me.
Which bring me to the next character in this book. MIA MONTGOMERY. Grr she is a "villain" that will make you feeling all sorts of homicidal and evoke feelings in you of hatred for someone.
This book will take you on a little bit of a rollercoaster. Drew and Courtney together will make you heart happy and you will giggle like a school girl. Things get intense, you will swear you will curse you will swoon you will want to throw your kindle. Did I mention you will curse. And of course as this is a duet Kennedy Fox will leave you with a OMFG moment.
The book is just AMAZING, you won't be able to put it down and you will immediately want more from these two.
Kennedy’s Fox’s newest in the Checkmate Series, This is Reckless, has finally given us Drew and Courtney’s story. I have been waiting to read about them since Viola and Travis’s story. This book does not disappoint- but WARNING: There is an epic cliffhanger that leaves us in suspense until April for the continuation of Drew and Courtney.
Drew, a police officer for the Sacramento PD, and Courtney, best friend to his sister Viola and computer guru for Travis’s company are roommates. Courtney has had is bad for him ever since she met him but figures that being friends and roommates while firmly in the friend zone is better than nothing. It doesn’t help that Drew has an on again, off again crazy girlfriend Mia that is constantly in and out of the picture. One day Drew will see Mia for who she truly is, Courtney just hopes that it is sooner than later.
On the night of Viola and Travis’s wedding, Drew (who is again single) and Courtney get horribly drunk and wake up naked in bed. Courtney doesn’t think that Drew remembers the night before and tries to go on as if nothing happened. When is becomes evident that Drew does in fact remember every detail, the two of them embark on a new and cautious relationship. It doesn’t help that crazy Mia keeps popping her head back in thinking that she and Drew will be together again.
Courtney loves Drew, but dealing with psycho Mia is a little much to deal with sometimes. It doesn’t matter how many times Drew tells her she’s it and Mia means nothing, the history that is there unnerves her still. Drew is all in with Courtney and loves everything about her.
I really liked how Drew and Courtney got together somewhat early in the story and we didn’t have to get to the very end before they became a couple. It was great to watch Drew finally realize what was standing right in front of him. Courtney waited a long time for Drew to finally notice her, and once he does he’s a goner. They really are perfect for each other.
This was a five star read for me up until the very end. I have a love hate relationship with cliffhangers. I love them because it means that there is going to be more of the story, but I hate them for having to wait to read it. Luckily, the wait is pretty short and we can read their continuation soon. What I disliked was what the cliffhanger was. I loved 99.9% of the story, and it’s probably just me, but I didn’t love what happened right at the end. I know in my gut that everything will work out, but personally it just didn’t do it for me. That being said, everything else in this story was gold and I can’t wait to read what happens!
