I was not a fan of Tony Bennett or Lady Gaga, I happen to be turning the channel on PBS and caught a glimpse of the show as it was happening and now I am a fan of both. Lady Gaga proves that she is not only a performer or Entertainer this woman can truly sing. The pleasant surprise is that there is Magic truly between them and Tony Bennett lets the world know that he has never stopped singing. An absolutely amazing evening in classic songs. Very refreshing to hear excellent music no matter the genre.

She understands musical nuance and sings like she was trained for the theater and Jazz
Reviewed in the United States on May 3, 2018Verified Purchase
Lady Gaga is definitely the star of the album. Mr Bennett's voice is obviously past it's peak, but he's still got more stuffing, range and nuance than virtually any pop singer (or as I call them, Poop singers) who is charting these days. They all give me headaches to listen to. Nothing but vapid teen angst engineered with high range and thumping bass.
And Lady Gaga gets it. She understands musical nuance and sings like she was trained for the theater and Jazz. I hope she keeps recording in the Jazz genre and evolves away from poop music.

It could and should have been Amy Winehouse. It could have been Mariah Carey. It could have been Adele. It could have been Gwen Stefani. It could have been Pink. It could have been Nicki Yanofsky. It could have been Charlotte Church. It could have been Faith Hill or Carrie Underwood. It could have been Madonna. It was k d Lang. Well, thank the powers that be that now it's, of all people, Lady Gaga. All these women who have voices for the ages, could have done this, but this album with Lady Gaga joining the, it seems, immortal Tony Bennett, for very classy arrangements of jazz and pop classics is one for the ages. It will be around forever and, as with Tony's work with k d Lang, it will never go out of style.
I give huge props to Lady Gaga for taking the chance or risk, to do such an album with Tony Bennett and display just how great a singer she is and what a great voice she has, so very different from what we usually get from the Gaga.
Want to know my favorite cut? It's whatever is playing. I will say that their version of "Goody, Goody," is exceptional. As is the title track. The closing track of "It Don't Mean a Thing (If It Ain't Got That Swing)", is the perfect ending to as close to a perfect album could be.
I know this review is a bit late, but better late than never. I have to admit it was the joy that their TV ad (for a competitor who shall remain nameless), got me to go and get this album. It is just beautiful. All I can say is go out and get it and then "Face The Music and Dance".

Well, there I was, relaxing one morning, listing to a local jazz station, and this song comes on, a duet, a guy I knew (Tony Bennet, not his REAL time), and some gal. I looked at the 'players', and he was singing with Lady Gaga! Tony Bennet!? They were singing 'classics' together, and I LIKED how they sounded. I'd never heard Lady G sing, but was impressed with her voice, how she carried off the songs and interacted with Mr. B.. Very enjoyable!

UPDATE : i just received a replacement and it has ALL the exact same issues. I’m so angry. I don’t know if it’s the sellers fault or if it was the factory’s, but these vinyls are disgraceful quality.
Original review : I was unpleasantly surprised by the quality of this vinyl. Right out of the seal the record had marks all over and dust ALL over. The record itself was actually warped, I noticed once I put it on my turn table. The center paper parts where also split and covered in scratches. The quality is also so warbled and bad. I was expecting way more. I’m not even sure how a “new” sealed vinyl could have so
Much dust in it.

This review is for the vinyl release.
With some sort of a dual label release by Columbia(Sony) and Interscope(WEA), the LP was pressed by United Pressing(Sony's usual), and although with 180g vinyl, they used an inferior grade. With Columbia at one time being a premier record manufacturer, they, like Capitol and MCA, foolishly closed down their manufaturing plants. WEA lately has been using Pallas in Germany to press their vinyl, although of the U.S. vinyl manufacturers of LP's, RTI would be of equal quality.
Tony sounds as great as he always has! Partnering up with fellow goombah, the multi-talented eccentric Lady Ga Ga, was a strike of pure genius. The song selections are great, the artists are at their best and the production & arranging is fantastic. If they had just used another manufacturer to press the LPs, this would have been a flawless release.
If you are a vinyl collector or enjoy the superior sound of vinyl, buy this vinyl LP. If exteraneous background noise, from poor manufacturing, buy the CD instead for superior sound. With buying the CD or LP versions here, for the lo-fi crowd, an mp3 rip is included, which is the only way you can get a lower quality version over the LP(but mp3 or LP are on par here). Or, you can just buy the lo-fi mp3 version.

my first encounter with lady gaga was the 2009 royal variety show i had of course caught the odd snippet of her while channel hopping all i really knew about her was her outrageous costumes so i watched said show on the telly and was very impressed she completely destroyed those x factor clowns i borrowed the the album all production and that's where things where left until the BBC4 broadcast over christmas so what it like well i'm no expert there are 18 songs most of which i heard at one time or another tony bennett sounds on top form i don't believe it he's 88 and so is the lady herself without all that jiggery-pookery what's next for the lady herself who knows maybe musical theatre that would be something she's definitely someone to keep an eye on look out madonna

This is a very good quality recording and shows the other side of Gaga

This is a very good quality recording and shows the other side of Gaga. The pair work well together, although I have to say that Tony's voice does show his age in places. I have read some damning reviews of this album from, what I assume are, jazz purists, but I enjoy it for what it is.
