Miller and Skinner have taken a topic that could fill encyclopedias and made it accessible and fun. Unlike an encyclopedia, though, there's lots of information on doing it yourself, and the book hits a good balance between giving you the facts and giving practical advice. So not only do they explain the difference between Brie and Camembert, or decode cryptic cheese labels, but they help you go into the grocery store and pick out a couple wedges for dinner, and maybe a bottle of wine or beer to go along with it.

It's all done in a very straightforward, friendly manner, without talking down to the reader or dumbing down the content. Reading it, I get inspired to go shopping and start tasting some cheese right away!

We've come a long way baby from just using American cheese in grilled cheese sandwiches or shredded cheddar in our mac 'n cheese. In the past 20 years the American palate has come lightyears in its quest for learning everything about cheeses from around the world. The Dummies series delivers once again in its goal toward "making everything easier" in this new volume devoted to every aspect of cheese. We especially like the chapter "Ten Cheeses We'd Like You to Try" and the nice smattering of recipes that will help the reader "make cheese the life of the party" as you entertain this summer.

Having been a life long fan of cheese, a friend recently gave me this book. Although there are many cheese books out there, most of them fail to explain the basics and, believe me, cheese world can pretty confusing!

So far, I've learned a lot and am really impressed with the content, which is presented in an approachable, fun and understandable way and really draws the reader in. The authors clearly know their subject well and have inspired me to learn more. Also, the photographs are a great addition. I highly recommend this book for anyone who has more than a passing interest in cheese and wants to delve into the subject further.

I once heard one of my children explaining to another that there were four kinds of cheeses in the world: string, "orange" (aka cheddar), "pizza" (mozzarella) and "hamburger" (American "cheese"). I realized at that moment that it was time to broaden my family's culinary horizons. We bought some brie the next time we went to the store, the kids loved it, and we've been cautiously experimental since then. For myself, I love tasting all sorts of cheeses, but still knew that compared with the wide world of cheese out there, I might as well be like my children with only the "four cheeses" to enjoy.

So I was delighted to get the truly (and literally) amazing Cheese For Dummies book from Laurel Miller, Thalassa Skinner, and the staff of CultureCheeseMag.com, which is published by Wiley. The book includes a forward from celebrity chef Ming Tsai (who I still can't believe didn't win the Next Iron Chef), who says that TITLE "should not be overlooked by foodies or self-professed cheese connoisseurs" because it provides "essential information you need in an easy-to-digest format" and "is extremely current, with content you won't find in other resources."

Cheese For Dummies includes a number of incredible recipes for all eight-courses of any meal, from the simple -- "Bistro Salad with Poached Egg and Parmigiano-Reggiano" -- to the fancy, like their "New Classic Cheese Souffle." The book offers both savory dishes -- "Pan-Roasted Wild Mushrooms over Cheddar Polenta with Pumpkinseed Oil" or their "Cheesemonger Mac & Cheese" -- as well as sweet, like their "Dried Apricot Goat Cheese Tart.

Got the Kindle edition on my Fire. The book was easy to read and full of information. It lives up to the high standards of most Dummies books. If you are looking for a book on how to make cheese, or a book of recipes, this isn't it. However, if you want to boost your knowledge and eventually your appriciation of cheese, this is a must have.

I enjoyed being able to go to different areas, and look up different cheeses and serving suggestions. While I have been exposed to different cheeses since childhood, my husband has not. I was also introduced to several cheeses which we are going to try in the near future. Am glad I have this on my Kindle so I can go back and re-read sections when I choose.

Got a lot of info from this book but for most part it was above my pay grade. Per the title this book is for "dummies". I. Am a dummy but Had a hard time keeping up. Not a good choice for electronic venue.
