As an Italian, I love using this skimmer (Italian: schiumarola) for many tasks including serving quickly large spoonful of food (pasta, rice, salads) and when frying food, scooping it safely and moving it to a drying area. It's also great to remove starch when boiling potatoes: just skim the surface.
I tried the full metal ones but they were a bit too heavy! This is a great medium:not heavy but still sturdy.
I wish the producers offered different handle colors and finishes - maybe next time?

You do wonder how many of these are ever used for cooking. Going by the reviews, most people use it for cat clumping litter and no wonder, it’s perfect. Strong, with quite a sharp edge so it cuts through clay clumping litter with no bother at all. Its shape means it gets really close to the tray wall and the holes are narrow enough to filter out clean litter while retaining the used bits. It lives up to its name, really sturdy. Like some other reviewers, I’d been using a skimmer which was about 60 years old, and never thought I’d find one as good. This one is.
