As close to a disposable set of professional level knives as you can get!

A great set of knives for those times where you don't want to risk losing or damaging your more expensive set. They are well-balanced, of surprisingly quality, and more than sharp enough for just about any job, so you can use them for a picnic, camp out or at the local church supper with little or no fear. The non-stick ceramic coating (these are NOT ceramic knives) along the sides of the blade is a nice touch and the variety of colors available makes keeping track of each piece a little easier. This set can more than hold its own against just about every other brand in the short run, however, it does have a few shortcomings. The biggest one is that they tend to lose their edge fairly quickly, depending on how often they're used and on what type of surface and how they're cleaned. Secondly, they don't react too well to any kind of sharpening, professional or otherwise, so once they do become dull, its not worth the expense to have them sharpened. Also, the ceramic side coating tends to flake off with intense washing so putting them in the dishwasher is not recommended, which is the case for most professional level knives. But when you factor in the price, these problems are more than acceptable. Plus, the included block goes a long way in prolonging the life of each knife edge and consists of a series of long slots instead of specifically sized slots so it can easily be used with other knives as well. Thanks to the price, the chef's Essential is about as close to a professional set of practically disposable knives as you can get and they are more than worth a try in any kitchen. They are also great as a first set of knives for a new cook who is not quite ready for an expensive set of professional knives but has progressed beyond the rudimentary department store starter level sets.

Items arrived as expected. Packaging done well, no missing or damaged knives. All the knives are VERY sharp (at least mine are). So be very careful not to cut yourself. As for food, it works well, cutting steaks, meat, veggies, and fruits. Very clean cut and precise. For maintenance, I hand wash with detergent, hot water, sponge and place them either flat or pointed down to dry off. I do like the simple yet stylish knives holder (just make sure not to force them in or you end up tearing overtime the plastic mesh curve like knife block. You can also hang the knives up on the magnetic knives holder or similar in your kitchen. They do come with sturdy hard plastic knives sheath. Overall, 7 piece knives set works (for now). Will try to update info in couple years.

Quality, Affordable Knives That Are Wife Approved

If you want a good quality knife set for a great price, these are for you. Aside from a cleaver, this set has any sort of knife my wife and I would ever need. Given, we are not professional chefs, but for normal cooking they have worked great. Sharp enough to get the job done, great grip texturing for use with wet hands, and a sleek black finish which (hopefully) will mitigate corrosion. The knife block is interesting, as it has rows of slots that allow you to place the knives in any position that you want, which also allows you to keep some additional knives in there if you wish.

For $30, you really can't go wrong here. Recommended.

Oh this knife set is beautiful! I wanted something a little different than the traditional wooden knife block and saw this shortly after. With stainless steel/black appliances, these look GREAT in my kitchen (although with the sleek colors and subtlety of the white spots, I'm sure this would match almost any kitchen!). I love that you can put the knives wherever you want in the block- it's convenient being able to put the most used ones in the front. The ONE thing I wish this had that it doesn't is a pair of scissors, although if you could find a matching pair they will fit in the block also! As someone who is teaching themselves to cook, this seems like a great set of knives to have. They are sharp and cut through things easily- a must have for someone with less-than-professional knife skills (just be careful!). I'm not sure if these are dishwasher safe- they are too pretty for me to be willing to test it but they are extremely easy to clean and nothing seems to stick to them.

I received my Chef Essentials 7 piece knife set promptly, in excellent condition, as described and packaged very nicely. So far I am impressed. They seem to be well constructed. No loose handles etc. And in my opinion they look extremely cool. For the price point these seem to be really good knives. They absolutely blow away my previous "cheap" set. I've only had them a clue of weeks now, so I can't speak to their longevity, but I have used them everyday cutting a wide variety of items and I am very happy with their performance. They feel good in the hand. These are not the high end, high quality knives like Henkels, but then I didn't want to spend the $200 it would take to get those. Again, these knives appear to be very good quality and value for the price. So far they seem to hold an edge well. I'm sure they will require more frequent sharpening, but I would expect that. I also lime the types of knives o the set. They cover all of my cutting needs. The only thing I have found to be somewhat disappointing is the knife holder. This set looks really cool and modern on my counter top, but as the knives sit in the holder straight up and down, I've found I can't just pull a knife out while it sits under the upper cabinets. I have to pull the holder out onto the counter top. And as the holder doesn't have the weight of a wooden block it some times requires 2 hands to hold the holder while pulling the knife out. This is not a deal breaker for me, just not as convenient as a typical angled wooden block. Overall I am extremely satisfied with this purchase.
