. I followed the company's video to season the grill. I got the same color marks the video did, but the grill was not seasoned, and pretty much everything stuck somewhere, except bacon. Even using the bacon's fat, eggs and pancakes failed to lift off smoothly. I wanted this to work, not send it back, so I found a method of seasoning cast iron that worked on this, too.
. I put the grill in the oven at 450 F for 30 minutes (thick piece of steel) as I wanted it to be evenly heated. Then, I took it out and covered the top surface with a thin layer of coconut oil. I used a bit more than I might have as it was still a bit liquid (1/8th inch) on one side of the grill. I put it back into the oven for at least an hour, and turned on the exhaust fan. When I looked, after the hour, the previously clear coconut oil was now a deep mahogany red-brown in most places and where the extra was it was a deep black.
. I took it from the oven, and let it cool to pretty warm but hot enough to feel it. I then poured some vegetable oil, and using a plain, not pre-soaped, steel wool I rubbed the oil into the black crust and gently wore it down to the steel surface [this was easy, I did not have to bear down]. Now it was unevenly mahogany colored.Read more ›
Seasoning Comment: The reviewer worried about carbon monoxide failed to notice this was only an issue during seasoning, when you heat cooking oil to very high temperatures. In fact, if you ever overheat oil during the normal course of cooking, you're making carbon monoxide and should ventilate immediately! Otherwise, there is no issue with carbon monoxide when using this griddle!!
I expect this would work better on a gas range, gas grill, or an open fire where the hot gasses help spread the head evenly. Any electric range, weather induction, smooth-top radiant, or old-fastioned coil, will likely have the same problem we did.
This item is just the ticket. Large, extends over 2 burners, and perfectly flat and smooth on the bottom to use on any burners. Heavy steel gauge plate with handles that flip and fold up or down, in case you want to use it in your over or on your grill, and for storage. Heavy enough steel to be indestructible, yet not have the major downside of cast iron, which is the weight. Seasoning and care of this item is identical to using a cast iron piece-- easy to clean and use. Still heavy, but nothing like the cast iron.
Very easy use as a griddle with the short sloping sides, and no irregular surface shapes like the cast iron ones.
The only downside is that it came straight from the foundry-- you have to wash the foundry, steel mill, residue off the metal and season it before using. Obviously, it is smooth, and it is a GRIDDLE. it does not have the ridged GRILL function.
Great product at a fair price. Just put the wok into seasoning properly and you will have a great griddle for life.

We like it, but it is not an object of great beauty. Works pretty well with our induction stove top but the heat is not uniform throughout when it is over two burners. Read morePublished 5 months ago by LindaF
