Top Customer Reviews
I had been ordering my beeswax from Fast Shipping Supplements and their quality is fantastic. Another reviewer had mentioned that their beeswax smells just like honey, and they are exactly right. The beeswax from Fast Shipping Supplements is very clean, has a beautiful color and creates a wonderful smell that fills the whole room when made into candles. It comes in a convenient size and shape - it's easy to melt a whole bar quickly, and/or it's very easy to grate, and the smell is wonderful. I make a lot of beeswax candles and you don't need to scent them with this beeswax - it gives off a wonderful, subtle honey scent. I purchased from both Larkin and Natural Cosmetics, because they were cheaper, (mistake on my part) and was extremely disappointed with the quality of beeswax from both vendors. I think they may get them from the same source because they both smelled like smoke and both of them had specks of dirt in them. So be very careful which vendor you purchase from. In the future I will only be purchasing from Fast Shipping Supplements
In addition to the candles I make, this beeswax makes the absolute best furniture polish you will ever find - it's really healthy for your wood, smells wonderful, and shines up your wood finish beautifully. And it's easy to make:
1 cup oil (olive, jojoba, walnut, tung, whatever oil you like the best) - use a 2 c. measuring cup
¼ c. beeswax (for best results, use the beeswax in this listing)
With a cheese grater, shave your beeswax or break it into bits with a hammer (tiny pieces will make the melting process go much quicker but with this particular beeswax, the small bars melt quickly). Add beeswax to the measuring cup until it reads 1 and 1/4 cups.
Heat in the microwave or in a double boiler on the stove top. It will need to be heated very hot, beeswax has a melting temperature of about 150 degrees F. Stir and make sure all the beeswax is fully melted and dissolved. When the beeswax melts your mixture will look just like the liquid oil. Be careful, it is hot.
Pour it into a container wide enough for stirring. As the mixture cools, stir it every once in a while to keep it from separating. As it cools, it will thicken around the edges of your container first, so scrape the sides. Stirring just a few times over a couple hours is enough - stirring will make an even, creamy blend. If you don't stir, the center will be oily while the edges will be harder and waxy and it is difficult to blend together when it is completely cooled.
Your furniture will love you! And your home will smell nice too!
If you're looking for natural lip balm, here is a great recipe for a small container:
8 tsp sweet almond oil
2 tsp beeswax
1 tsp honey
The sweet almond oil, as well as the beeswax, will soften your lips and keep them moisturized and the honey will make it smell sweet and will also help preserve the balm. Honey is too thick for bacteria to grow in so it is a great natural preservative.
If you're looking to make lip stick with this, here is another great recipe by percentage of weight (not organic):
Shea Butter 5%
Castor oil 43%
Jojoba oil 21%
Vitamin E Oil 3%
Fractionated Coconut: 8%
Carnauba Wax: 7%
For the color, add iron oxides for the base color and mica pigments for some glitter and shine. If you want a matte color, using only iron oxides. Add some titanium to lighten the color or black iron oxides to darken the color. Hope I helped. :)
I can state unequivocally that this product is AS ADVERTISED. I got 6 bars, weighing 5.9 ounces (advertised is 5 bars at 5 ounces) - so I actually got MORE than I paid for. The color is consistent and uniform and the smell, which was a bit faint and certainly not overpowering, was slightly sweet and very pleasant. I have used this wax for a lot of things and made several concoctions with it. All have turned out pretty well, I am sure due to all the great info and videos available as well as this being an excellent product. Probably also combined with a healthy bit of beginners luck. Anyhow, for everything from homemade lotion & mosquito repellent, to soap and chapstick to candles to home made leather conditioner for everything from boots and bowling shoes to belts, dog leashes, a knife sheath, a guitar strap, etc. this product is really good and provides great protection from the elements.
Highly recommended & thanks.
