It can be hard to clean if you don't pay attention to what's inside. Sometimes little stubs of the cloves get stuck inside. As long as you make sure to remove these (which can be done with the point of a steak knife or with a toothpick, then it cleans just fine. In fact, I wash mine in the top drawer of the dishwasher and no harm has come to it. I've washed it this way at least two dozen times.
Unless you meticulously get all the extra skin off the garlic, you end up with a lot of "stuff" still inside.
Plus some of shavingS stick half way causing even more clean up problems..
I like the thin shavings, but at what cost (in clean up mess)

I've bought SEVERAL gizmo's to slice and dice and squish garlic. UP TO NOW probably the best all round garlic squisher was the OXO Good Grips. But like all of them, even peeled garlic leaves stuff in the chamber that needs cleaning out.
I thought about the Trudeax "dual" crusher/slicer, but then I found THIS on Amazon, and for just $10.95 I decided to take a chance.
Other reviews complain about the size of the cloves it will process, but frankly I used several sized cloves, and it sliced them ALL paper thin every time. Not the first clove was too big to fit, the spring and lid clamped down every time, and I put in 3-4 at a time.
It does leave trash in the top chambers, but so do all the others. It's a bit harder to get clean than the OXO crusher, but there are times I want sliced rather than squished, so now I can do both.
Update 4/18/16: I found a Bodum garlic slicer on eBay and bought it. Donated the Chef to Good Will. Good riddance!
If you like garlic, do get a garlic slicer though. They are amazing. Just don't get this one.
