About Us

Who we are and what we do

There's something you should know about us. We can't stand the status quo – especially when the status quo stinks. That was literally true back in 1982 when you had two options for getting garlic into your meal: chop up a fresh clove and have your hands smell for the rest of the day, or settle for a couple of thin, dry flakes tapped out of a plastic container. Four our founder, CEO and Famous Inventor David Holcomb, there really was not option. He had to do better, and he knew he could.

Fast forward a few decades and David's first creation, the Garlic Machine, has become Chef'n. We're a growing Seattle-based company with more than 250 product Patents worldwide and a single mission. We want to make better tools so you can make better food. It's what drives our in-house design team to reinvent the utensils and gadgets that most of us take for granted while we're cooking and cleaning. It's what attracts the terrific, talented people we've welcomed into our Chef'n family. And it's what compels us to tell everyone we meet about the innovation Chef'n products can bring to their kitchens.

Is anyone listening? Well, the design awards and magazine covers seem to say yes, but for us the true test is in the homes of real people around the world. So put one of our inventions to work, create something delicious, and we look forward to hearing from you about your Chef'n experience.

Works great as it is suppose, mixing up some oil/vinegar based dressing. And fun to use! The only thing is that yes, it has a small cap for the spout, which if you're not careful would be easy to loose. Not a problem for me so far. To address the other reviewers issues with 1) doesn't mix thicker dressing: yeah, it's probably made for vinaigrettes. A russian dressing type would probably not fit out the spout either. so don't do it. and 2) it leaks and you can't shake it when the top is off: well yes, the point is that you DON't shake it, as squeezing the handle is how you mix up the ingredients. Also, I love it because it actually does not have that pesky dripping issue (maybe if you shake it it leaks?) I don't know, but to me it seems if used correctly, all is well. While there is some oil that gets around the spout from pouring, it's really not an issue for use (no dripping/ oily hands or table) and is taken care of with proper cleaning. In conclusion: used properly, it's the best salad dressing bottle yet!

Difficult to find a salad dressing bottle in the stores and came across this one. The emulsifier (probably, never tried) only works on vinegrettes, as anything thicker it would not work, and then broke. It is a nightmare to take the top off, and once the tiny removeable top for the spout disappears, you can't shake it. The top was always caked in oil residue, seeping out from under the screw top. Tossed it within the month.

This mixer is designed strictly for vinegar and oil... and works beautifully. I've never seen another hand mixer that could create such a stable emulsion. Since it's a plastic agitator, it can be broken, but we use ours at room temperature, or traveling in an ice chest, and have never noted a problem. We do make the first few squeezes of the agitator a bit gentle, until the liquid is moving. I bought my first unit when it first came out. Now we're buying a second unit (for picnics, away from home) from Amazon. About the only kitchen gadget (except silverware and a knife) that we travel with. We've now had our first one for a year.

Yes the cap is small, and we too worry about losing it... but so far no problem and it's otherwise entirely functional.

Yes, it may break if you use it inappropriately (adding things like pieces of stuff, rock salt, extremely viscous liquids, etc. that it isn't made for).

But as an emulsifier for vinegar and olive (or a similarly viscous) oil, not requiring an electric plug, it's the best I've seen since I started looking almost sixty years ago. Five stars... Until someone improves it!

thought enough of this product I decided to buy one for my workplace also, but before I got around to it the mechanism broke, or came apart somehow. Clearly the issue is that you can apply more force to the handle than the inner linkage can withstand, so keep your dressings watery and warm and you will be fine. If you use oil and put this device into a refrigerator the oil will get thick and probably present more resistance to the mixing blade than it can take.

After writing the review I took this disappointing device to the shop and bandsawed the top off. The autopsy revealed the underlying structural flaw, the squeeze lever divides into two arms forming a long 'U' shape, with the right arm running in a guide groove and the left arm pinned to a geared track. The track moves back and forth against a gear which is at the top of the mixing blade, spinning the blade. If you squeeze too hard on the handle the arms of the 'U' tend to bend together and jump out of the guide groove and then detach from the gear track. This is not repairable. The solution would be to provide a support that closes the 'U' and prevents the arms from bending inward and jumping out of the track.

Again, thin dressings that are not refrigerated and are mixed using light pressure will result in a longer life than thicker dressings requiring more force than this delicate device can take.

It broke within a week and was very hard to clean properly. It was hard to squeeze the handle to stir for arthritic hands. A total waste of money.

It's great at emulsifying salad dressing, though you need some strength in your grip to make it work, especially if you want to stir ingredients straight out of the refrigerator. But it is fragile.
I've bought 2 so far and the handle broke both times. The second time I wrote to Chef'n and they sent me a new one. Some months later that broke also; I wrote again and they again sent a new one. Last week - guess what? Handle broke. I wrote to them, and they still have a lifetime guarantee, so they will send me another.
I don't know how they make money out of this, but as long as they keep on replacing them, I will keep on using them...

I ordered the Chef'n Emulstir to mixing olive oil and balsamic vinegar. It worked fine for that with one exception. The exception was that it leaked because of a crack in the base. It leaked from the first day I received it, but I didn't notice it because it was usually empty and I didn't notice it until months later. My wife started setting it on a saucer to catch the slow leak. When I noticed her doing that, I looked more closely and saw the crack in the base.
When I E-mailed for a replacement, I was refused because I was asking outside of the 30 day warranty period.
I was way outside of that as I started using it in early October and didn't express my complaint until January.
I have said the crack was there from the beginning and I believe it was, but I must admit I can't be certain of that. What I can be certain of is that Eurostoves didn't care about my experience. They can rightfully say it was outside of the warranty and I can say I'll do business with them again.
