Very well constructed set of bottles and hardware for the so-called "Easy" caps. I immediately washed mine by hand and filled them with my latest batch of Kvass.
The problem in this case comes in when the seller gets on the "grolsch" bandwagon. When the name "grolsch" is used in describing the product, in my opinion the seller is engaged in a bit of deception by not OPENLY stating that these caps do NOT use ceramic material (with which the original Grolsch beer bottles caps were constructed).
One searches the descriptive verbiage over and over, straining one's already strained eyes to find obviously necessary information. Is the information present? Has it been glossed over? More straining. Over and over and around and around it goes. I blame the seller for this runaround.
A few years back it struck me that I didn't know how my tea bag was constructed. That's right. The tea bag itself - the materials. In the past, one got used to asking if the cotton bag was bleached or whether it was simply clean enough to not help in wrecking your liver. Well, I asked the employees at several different Starbucks shops how their teabags were made. As one would imagine I got some quizzical looks!
The Starbucks teabag is a curious critter. It is definitely not a cotton teabag. In fact, it looks suspiciously like something with which one would NOT want their teabag constructed. I showed my wife. she said it looks like Nylon. Indeed, it looks like plastic!
Well, that situation of ignorance went on for two weeks before I finally found a source for the information. The new style teabags are constructed with a type of naturally-derived polyester. Yes, it looks like plastic but it is actually made from corn! Corn starch, to be specific. It is called PLA - Polylactic Acid. Formerly there was a version called PLE. That version ended rather ignominiously. It was said to have hampered a few livers. Uh oh! Backtrack! Spin! Fudge the numbers! Payoff the "regulators"!
It turns out that PLA is fairly benign and actually used for all sorts of things, one of which is internal bone supports after surgical procedures. It helps to hold things in place for months on end before finally dissolving within the body to let the properly healed bone continue its sojourn through human life. Nice.
Back to plastic bottle tops.
So, with what type of plastic are these bottle caps constructed? I stored one of the most health-giving food substances known to mankind in a plastic bottle once. A year later it was destroyed. It had turned a rather strange and unhealthy color and there was something else in the bottom of the bottle - an exudate of sorts. It looked even more sinister than the bileous color. Yuck!
To make a long story somewhat less longer, I am going to buy the ceramic EZ Caps from another supplier and dismantle and replace these imposters. I notice that the description didn't say "BPA Free". That is a horrible horrible substance you don't want in your world of kombucha or brewing or whatever. Feed it to your little boys and it shrinks their genitals and helps them grow breasts. Oh well, they can grow up and move to San Francisco!
At any rate, for most all uses I am sure these plastic caps are minimally poisonous. But that is not very reassuring. And I don't appreciate the runaround.

Received these bottles individually placed in bubble envelopes and none were broken. I did not use them yet, since I am waiting for my kombucha to ferment. But the initial set up with lids was easy enough. The closure on some is hard to open, like stated on some other reviews for this product. I am sure once in use it should get easier...or maybe I just did not get the hang of it, how to open them properly. After all, the bottles are made out of thicker glass (like a beer bottle) and it does not look cheap, compared to the once I saw at Hobby Lobby.Update after using with Kombucha: Bottle seals were air tide during bottle fermentation process and kombucha turned into a refreshing sparkling beverage. The bottle was not to easy or to hard to open and has the right size to hold in your hand while drinking out of it.I will purchase more to have on hand for parties. Update after using with Kombucha: Bottle seals were air tide during bottle fermentation process and kombucha turned into a refreshing sparkling beverage. The bottle was not to easy or to hard to open and has the right size to hold in your hand while drinking out of it.
I will purchase more to have on hand for parties. Would work great for homemade limonade or tea.

the wire closing mechanism kept flipping over and the quality of the glass appeared poor (there were large bubbles in it amongst other things)
