I was skeptical at first...I looked through many waffle cone makers on her. Even almost purchase a really expensive one with not so good reviews. This one has the best and most reviews on Amazon but is fairly inexpensive. I figured 'okay, I'll give it a try'...I am very happy that I did. After a few tries, and a great recipe I found on Pinterest.com, we are golden! These are perfectly brown and crispy!
PS. If you are curious about the mini chocolate chips, I put these in the bottom of the cones while they are still hot and swirl them in the bottom in order to seal the cone to prevent melted icecream from dripping out-nobody likes a mess ;-)

1. It says to use about 3 Tblspns of batter. I would guess if you were using a thinner batter then that might be the case but I used a slightly thicker batter and found just over 1/4 cup worked best. If you look at the picture, there are 2 cones that show the difference between using 3 Tblspns and using over 1/4 cup.
2. I used the recipe in the booklet but almost doubled the sugar because I wanted these for ice cream. I found they needed to be sweeter.
3. You can use milk, more melted butter, or even more egg whites to thin if the batter is too thick but milk makes it a little softer in cone form.
4. The recipe booklet for regular waffle cones made 6 - 7. Since I did a couple of small ones, I would say 6 full size ones.
5. If you use a dishtowel to help you roll it, press down on the bottom tip of the cone to ensure no holes. Yes, you are flattening the very bottom but it is hardly noticeable and there will be no ice cream leaks.
6. I did wipe it down before I started with a paper towel sprayed with vegetable oil but I don't think I needed to. All of the cones came away from the plates easily.
If you can find the one for mini cones, I highly suggest you invest in both. They are excellent little machines.
