Michael Faraday was without doubt the greatest chemist of ALL TIME. Along with Sir Issac Newton(invented calculus, discovered gravity and wrote the three basic laws of physics that all of physics flows from, defined optics ) and Michael Faraday are the two men who stand above all other mathematicians and scientists(this includes Einstein, who had to have Max Plank do the mathematics because Einstein was a terrible mathematician.
This lecture was very cleverly crafted to build on itself so that the young people attending the lecture could follow the science. Faraday followed in the footsteps of his mentor in this series of youth lectures at the Royal Academy of Science.
Newton and Faraday were both very deeply Christian. They understood the complexity of the universe and that man could not make it nor destroy it.
I give this book 5 stars. Everyone old and young should read it.

This book describes brilliantly how oxidation and combustion with oxygen was discovered and the methodology used to find out the chemical processes involved on it. Good reference to initiate the study of green gases effect in the 1860's as M Faraday calculated the quantity of carbon in the air at that date .
In general a very good scientific book of the 1860's but with very small copy printing of the original papers that makes very difficult to read it without a magnifying glass .
