Review

I LOVE THIS BOOK! And do you know what I love most? It's thin and it's simple. My patients ask me these questions every day. Now I can refer them to a particular page or section. This is so helpful! --Dr. Jerrold H. Steiner, surgeon, Saul & Johce Brandman Breast Center at Cedars Sinai

This book is a life raft for anyone facing chemo and for those who care about them! --Judy, LSW, psychotherapist and caregiver

I couldn't wait to turn the page and read the next section. I love this book and carry it with me at all times. It was comforting to know I could easily refer to it at any time. I want to give this as a gift to anyone who's about to go through chemotherapy. --Meredith, nurse and chemo recipient

From the Author

I was diagnosed with breast cancer just before my birthday. During my illness I spent hours consulting oncologists, breast cancer survivors, books, magazines, support groups, newsletters, the Internet, and more. I was often frustrated by having to wade through long texts and multiple sources to find information. I felt overwhelmed and disorganized. After my treatment ended, I decided to create a simple guide with everything I learned boiled down and in one place.

Chemo: Secrets to Thriving From Someone Who's Been There is the book I wanted to have. Barbara Mastej edited, designed, and illustrated the book to ensure it is user-friendly, with one spread per subject, easy to find topics, and illustrations to make you smile.

There are lots of books on this subject, but not one that's as succinct and as wise as this. Brown wastes no time with over-explaining or filling your brain with needless information. This is a book of essentials--a book that highlights things you need to know NOW. Nothing is wasted. Nothing overlooked. Because when you're undergoing chemo, you haven't the time or patience to read endless explanations that sidetrack you with extraneous details. This book short and to the point. It is also delightfully illustrated and even (can you believe?) amusing. And if there's ever a time that cries out for humor, it's when you're trapped in the midst of a life crisis. Buy this book. Read it now. You won't regret it.

"When I was going through chemo, I was lucky enough to be in the focus group - using this book throughout treatment. I've been waiting for it to come out since that time. It helped me more than anything! I've just ordered 10 copies to give to people. Buy it - it may be the best thing you do to ensure a better experience." Roxanne uses humor to keep it real...LOVE THIS BOOK!!!!

The brilliance of this book is immediately reflected in the gentle-read approach, the inflections of humor, and the concise knowledge needed without the antiquated information overload associated with most modern day thoughts on Chemotherapy. In other words, it works!

With my first read, Roxanne Brown has empowered me to approach my first session (and subsequent ones thereafter) with a fistful of tried and true remedies and information that runs the gamut from treatment, side effects, financial aspects, and in essence, the whole emotional gamut that comes with having breast cancer.

Hug this book and keep it close to your heart as you venture hand-in-hand with the others who have journeyed before us to provide the clarity and support of their own experiences, ones that are truly thriving...

This book was so easy to read, with top tips! I didn't know so many things in here. I found out about this book at a seminar and I'm so glad I did. Remedies are simple and inexpensive yet unknown, like putting a paper towel under your wig-no more itching, cool and comfy. Who knew?? Amazing! Get it if you buy just 1 book -- this is the best one out there.

I want to thank the authors for writing this wonderful book! If only I had this information when I was preparing to go through chemo, I know that I would have been less stressed out. I love the RIGHT, RIGHT, RIGHT page - like the author, I assumed that I was supposed to feel horrible during chemo - so I didn't call my doctor to tell him how horrible I was feeling. And later, I found out that I was having an allergic reaction to one of the meds - I didn't have to be miserable. Don't assume - ALWAYS talk to your doctor. YOU do NOT have to be miserable while going through chemo. I am "gifting" this book to people about to go through chemo- what could be better than "giving the gift of a more positive chemo experience." BUY THIS BOOK! SPREAD THE WORD!

Much to my surprise, I just recently received this wonderful book as a gift from a friend who has known the author for many years. This friend thought that I might appreciate the words written by a sister survivor, and she was right! If only I had been given the information that Roxanne includes in this book before I started my chemo regimen, it would have put my mind at ease. I've been cancer free for nearly 3 years now, and even-though I've already experienced the process, I really did find it uplifting and informative. It is not laden with too much information and medical terms, but certainly tells it, like it is, from a participant's point of view. Thank you Roxanne, for taking time to put your thoughts and experiences in print. I will certainly pass this wonderful book along.

As a woman going through chemo I found these trips very helpful. I use plastic spoons, paper plates, cold water, conditioner on my bald head. Thanks for the info, I wish I had been given this when I first started the chemo process.
