I love the clicky feedback and primarily using it for daily typing and coding. I am attaching it to my ThinkPad so it will take some time for me to get use to it as a full size keyboard vs. the laptop keyboard. However, I think I am gonna typing faster with this one once I get used to it.
As people suggested, this is fantastic for daily typing! Crispy sound and just the right amount of feedback that you would expect. Yes it might not be good for office or other public area, as the typing sound might be a little bit annoying for others while pretty enjoying for yourself!
The key cap is very silky and feels comfortable for every touch. The letters were scribe rather than printed on it, so you it is not a smooth feeling on the surface of each cap. I think this would make it to be long-lasting.
This is one of the classic mechanical keyboard, and you would not get any fancy ports or media control scrolls and are out there in other products such as the Das Keyboard. Personally I hope it could have a built in USB port, especially when you are using it with the laptop and accordingly takes up one USB port.
To summarize:
Pros:
1. Very precise feedback. Good for typing.
2. Crispy clicking sound.
Cons:
1. A little bit louder than the normal keyboard (non-mechanical) to be used in office, but not that much. Good for home use.
This keyboard is quite forgiving ergonomically despite its old-school design. I have somewhat sensitive wrists from a job with a bad ergo setup a few years back and this board treats them well when paired with a wrist rest (I don't use the feet, but they are nice and sturdy for those who like keyboard feet).
The G80 also has the "spit and polish" lacking on cheaper boards. The cord is nice and sturdy and doesn't kink. The lettering on the keys is extremely durable; most gamers will have experienced obvious wear on the WASD array but my keys have nary a whit of fading after years of heavy use for that purpose. Even the plastic is top-notch: aside from dust, mine shows NO signs of wear and tear whatsoever. Not even the usual smoothed-out spacebar.
The noise level is obviously higher than that produced by membrane keyboards and renders it somewhat "NSFW". My girlfriend has taken to calling out "clackity clack" every time she hears me typing while I'm on the phone with her. However, this is par for the course for mechanical keyboards so I feel no need to ding a star for it.
All in all, I absolutely swear by my Cherry. If only I could have one at my day job too...
The reason I rated it as only four rather than five stars is the space key. This is where they dropped the ball. The actual switch that the space bar actuates is located off center on the long bar - it appears to be beneath the 'N' key. As a result of this and some sloppiness in the action of the space bar, it frequently misses registering space inputs if they are made with the left thumb and it strikes near the left end of the bar. It is quite annoying to need to go back through a line of text to edit and insert the missing spaces. Other than this annoyance, I find it to be a very good keyboard.
1. On the top left corner, there are only two cherries in the company's new logo, with the company name printed in a sans-serif bold font. (I almost believed I purchased a counterfeit version until I checked cherry's website, because the logo is so ugly...)
2. The Windows logo on the Win key is the Win8/Win10 version, so this would actually be a "designed for Win8" keyboard, so excited!!
As for the switch, the tactile feeling is indeed pretty unique, although it is pretty loud so it is probably not good for use in office or dormitory, or your life may be under threat.
One score is deducted because there is no tactile mark on F and J key, so it is not very easy to locate your fingers at the right location.
