Cheryl'sSong by:Kenneth Bossard | Entry Category: Genre Fiction
The writing is rich with this author'spassion for understanding the ways of the heart, and his compassion for thehuman experience with all of its ups and downs, especially in the area ofreligious faith. The author paints a vivid portrait of Cheryl's journeythrough life; of the joys and travails of putting one's heart on the line andmaking oneself vulnerable through the act of giving the heart. The authoralso inspires with Cheryl's resiliency in healing and personal growth. The cast of characters encountered on her journey is, individually andcollectively, certainly strong enough to carry the narrative, which prompts thereader's interest in wanting to know what will happen next.

Makesure you have plenty of time to read before you start this book, oryou will be frustrated when you need to put it down. It is apage-turner! Fast paced, but also took time to develop in-depthcharacters AND profound topics. It is a symphony of various genres(Christian, romance, thriller) - a novel one would love to see on thebig screen. Though the author is male, the story is narrated from afemale perspective very convincingly. Very. Reminiscent of an OprahBook Club selection I read years ago by Wally Lamb, another maleauthor taking a woman's perspective with amazing insight. Thedialogue is realistic, the action is compelling. Talented writer, great read!
From the Author
I wasinspired by my experiences pledging a Black Greek fraternity and theviews so many in my culture have of women as objects and men asone-dimensional. I decided to write a book in a woman's voice thatwould help both sexes understand one another from a Biblicalviewpoint. Actually, I began writing and the female character, CherylFields, took over.
Likebecoming a new Christian, the hazing endured in the Black Greekpledge tradition is a once-in-a-lifetime experience never forgotten.
I believe these words will shape my ministry through Cheryl's Song:
This book isdedicated to woman.
You have laboredlong in your call. You were called to make good the one, "notgood," of creation. Your work has not been in vain.
You are loved, needed by man to make the earth complete. You are loved by God andneed no man's role. You are for a special work: woman's work.
Ibelieve God is sending a new understanding. In Christ, there isneither male nor female. All are one. To God's daughters: God lovesyou.

Cheryl's Song took me back to my own college days and also made me reflect on many of my own decisions. It was refreshing to read about young people involved in the Greek life trying to be centered by putting God first. I am anxiously awaiting the next book in the series! Keep them coming.
The plots and characters are well developed. While reading you actually visualize the characters, but I won't spoil it for you.
I normally don't read fiction, however, I was so impressed with this book that I could not put it down. This book should be on every shelf, especially the shelves of those headed to college.
Amazing writing, amazing book.
