About the Author
Top customer reviews
This book contains brief interludes of oral history (passed from Chevato to his son to his son). Following each bit of oral history the author offers more information either directly related to the oral history or about the general history of the times, including information on the Mescalero, Lipan and Comanche Indians. Chevato was a Lipan Apache but also lived with the Mescalero Apaches and later with the Comanches. Usually I take notes when reading, but this time I didn't. There were some instances where I felt things were not clear and I had further questions, or that events from several years apart were compressed as if they had a direct bearing on one another (maybe they did, but I didn't always see it that way). However, my criticisms are minor compared to the value of the book as a whole. Chevato is an interesting book and you will learn some new details you have not seen elsewhere. Despite the 3-star rating the book is recommended.
