Review

"Whether you're already in college, about to start, or have a loved one making the journey, this book is for you (or a great gift idea for them)! " - The Fashionable Gal

" U Chic makes a great summer read for young ladies soon to get their college career on. " - Clutch Magazine

Since my 26 year old daughter is a part time college student I gave this book to her and then asked her about a few days later. She told me that the book has some great insight to college life, especially from a woman's point of view. She said that she is learning a lot from reading this book and that it's an easy read and she would recommend this book to other women who are attending college. She gives it a huge 2 thumbs up and told me that when she is done with it, her one college friend wants to read it next.

The advice provided in this book is helpful to young women as it provides an accurate description of what it is like as a female college student today's society. Garton does a great job at categorizing topics and providing tips along the way, making this book an easy and fun read. This book is certainly worth reading in its entirety, and is also a great resource to have as situations or questions arise based on individual experiences.

Reading through this book, it feels like the advice and anecdotes could be coming from a big sister, an older cousin, an RA, or a friend who has been there and done that, not too long before you, because that is who the contributors are! So even if a young woman doesn't have a big sister or insightful RA to provide the answers, she has a start with UChic.

From health and finals to romance and sororities, this detailed guide of indispensable advice is from responsible, savvy college women.

From finding love on your campus to the dangers of over-partying, U Chic is your all-access pass to everything a pre-collegiette should know before heading off to school.

The "Everything" in this title embraces choosing a major and deciding upon grad school, but the decided emphasis is on all things social, including Facebook etiquette, online dating, partying, hooking-up, sororities, keeping fit, and staying safe. This friendly, big-sister-toned advice is packaged with a bright pink cover.

U Chic: The College Girl's Guide to Everything should be the gift of choice for any girl heading to college...Any women new to the college environment will find this a lively, involving discussion.

Garton's style is conversational, as are most of the snippets from current college students...high school girls looking for general college advice will appreciate this book.

I picked up this book as a gift, but I ended up reading it myself before passing it on to the intended recipient. ---
I wish I had this book when starting college. Sometimes when you read a guidebook you expect a lot of superficial, common sense advice. This book goes beyond that - it is superbly written, and the advice is intelligent and thoughtful. It does a great job of addressing issues specifically from a girl's point of view, especially in the dating, health and sorority sections. I think the book gives an accurate picture of what it's like to be a girl in college today. Definitely worth checking out.

It has *some* helpful hints, but I felt that most come from common sense; eat healthy and exercise in order to be fit. Duh?

The writers introduce lots of good topics for advice and discussion, but hardly touch upon them, at least not to the extent that would be truly helpful or likely to be remembered, in my opinion. Of course, for further discussion, as the book reiterates, you can always go to their website to talk to other soon-to-be college students if you have any questions.

Somewhere in the book it says that this guide can be helpful to keep during all four (or more) years of college. I imagine that I'll get more help from actually talking to people for more in-depth help if I need it. All of this is just a basic outline of what to possibly expect in college; meeting new people, joining a club, knowing when to not leave your BFF plastered in some random person's bathroom by herself. You know, all that stuff you couldn't figure out on your own.

On the not so harsh side, it's probably worth a couple of reads, but, for me, it wasn't worth the price. I advised my friend not to buy it herself so that she can just borrow my copy. I advise the same to everyone else - check the library first.

Purchased this for niece who will be entering college/dorm life in the Fall. Scanned the text before presenting the gift, looked like reliable information on wide range of topics that would benefit her. Would recommmend for students who like to read, who don't have older siblings or parent to check in with for common sense info. With an ever evolving social atmosphere students face different dilemmas, other issues are timeless in either scenario this paperback would benefit college freshmen everywhere.

I purchased this for my younger sister. She was more than impressed with everything in it. She loved that it offered up a variety of suggestions and options that she would have never thought of.
It is geared towards college freshman, if you get this as a sophomore or later you have already learned the tricks of the trade the hard way.

If you're looking for a new and fun book to read, this is it! It's like indulging in a girl's night for yourself. You get to read about all the girly, glitz and glam while learning about health and fitness, professional growth, and various social situations you may encounter as a female college student. I would definitely recommend female college students to read this. It's a nice quick reference, especially when your girlfriends aren't picking up their phones.

Nice read with fun, albiet common sense tips for college girls. Found the little book while wandering a Barnes and Nobles store. I flipped through the book and was able to read it in a couple minutes. I would say its not worth ordering if you can flip through it in a bookstore or borrow it from your library. Save your dollars.

This is a fantastic book for any woman preparing for or already in college. The advice comes straight from the girls that are there as opposed to "experts" that may be removed from the day-to-day college lifestyle. It provides helpful advice and real-life stories about adjusting to the college experience, from dealing with roommates, to making one's own schedules, to the myriad of social activities available on campus. I highly recommend this book and enjoyed reading even as a recent college grad. I wish it was available when I was about to start school.

My roommates and I had such a fun time reading this book! Originally, I got it as a gift. I started talking about it with my roommates and then the book started rotating around my circle of friends. It gave us something new, fresh, and different to talk about.
