Slices pie crust around edges.
Like other reviewers, my pie crust was severed around the top edges of the weight. Not sure how you’d remove it without that happening. And it did leave my pie crust (which I was just pre-baking a bit before adding filling and top crust) at a few different levels of done-ness (I used a pie shield too around the top). I saw someone who suggested using parchment paper between the weight and the crust, so I will try that before giving up completely. It was definitely a disappointment - I rarely have luck with traditional pie weights keeping my top edges from sinking down, and this seemed to do the trick other than the slicing issue.UPDATE: Added a second picture - I used it the second time with parchment between it and the crust, and I just ended up with cracks in different locations instead of at the rim. The middle overcooked (under the metal) while it was still a little raw where the bottom meets the sides (under the silicone). Still not a winner for me. Note that both times I’ve tried this were with different store-brand doughs, so I will try it once more with a homemade pastry dough, but I’m definitely not feeling the magic of this tool despite my keen desire for it to work. Also FYI the first time I used an Emile Henry ceramic pie dish, and the second time a little smaller Le Creuset ceramic pie dish, so both times high-quality bakeware that usually result in beautiful pies.

I've baked pies for years and always partially prebake my 2-crust pie's bottom crust prior to putting in the filling to keep it from getting soggy once the wet fillings are added and then finished baking. In the past, I've lined the pastry with foil and then piled dry beans in the foil lined pan and this was a real pain to do if making several pies at a time, as I always managed to spill beans transferring pie to pie or when saving them to use again later for my next pie baking episode. The foil would also prevent the crust from browning and I would have to remove them along with the foil and put the crust back in the oven to continue to brown. These pie weights make your pies' crusts turn out perfectly with very little work involved or added expense of using foil with each pie, compared to what I was doing in the past. I also find that I don't need to dock the dough prior to baking to keep it from bubbling while baking because this weight and its flexible silicone outer flaps keep everything from bubbling during the baking process. I've held my breath each time I've removed the weight from the baked crust thinking it might stick and tear the crust, but that hasn't ever happened. It releases cleanly each time with no torn crusts. I'm going to purchase at least 1 more of these because I can bake 3 pies on 1 shelf in my oven at once and having one for each pie would be ideal for me and will prevent having to bake more batches of crusts by filling my oven to its capacity when baking multiple pies. These are a wonderful, timesaving addition to your pie baking. Don't hesitate to purchase them!

I read other reviews and the first time I used it, I was concerned that the “leaves” were stuck under the baked crust. However, I took the back of a fork and gently loosened a few leaves, and gently removed the weight by its little knob on the top. For the first time ever, I have a perfect blind baked crust! I love this product!

Been using pie weights for years, but thought I’d try this. It mostly did a really good job of keeping crusts in place, and crusts baked evenly. The downside is they are not quite wide enough. Upper parts of crusts tend to overhang the edge of the weight after baking, and that makes removing the weight a little tricky. Making the whole weight an inch or so wider would be a BIG improvement. Overall I found this to be easier and more effective than the traditional ceramic pellets.

It's an "okay" product in terms of holding up the pie walls. But I agree with many other reviewers that it interferes with the pie crust's baking uniformly. The top/rim gets brown while the bottom isn't baked as thoroughly. I tested this product by baking one pie crust with this pie weight and another pie crust with an empty pie tin placed inside the pie to support the sides - both in the same oven, at the same time. The pie tin worked best and baked the whole pie crust evenly. (I should probably return the pie weight, but I'll give it the benefit of the doubt or let someone else try it.)
