Cons: The non-stick coating seems to be rather delicate. I wouldn't recommend using any metal utensils on these - not even a butter knife around the pan to loosen the loaf. I'm even storing them using the cardboard dividers they came with. Also, the sharp corners make for lovely bread loaves, but are not easy to clean. I have to use a toothpick to get out all of the food in the tight corners.
However, the pit fall these pans have is the folds where both dough and batter get stuck and cleaning them is a chore.
You have to get these pans dry as well as any remaining moisture can be the start of rust.
I found the finish on these pans somewhat delicate.
To keep any baked goods from sticking either using cooking spray oil or butter and flour works but does not keep the cracks clean.
I have now switched to the USA Pan brand of individual mini loaf pans and report they are wonderful.
Although the USA mini loaf pans are twice the price as the Chicago Metallic, they produce a better result and are easy to clean.
The folded corners make lovely, perfectly shaped loaves, but food gets stuck in the crease at the corners and I have to use a toothpick to get it out.
Water also gets inside the fold a slowly comes out once the pans are flipped right side up, meaning I'll put them in the oven after each cleaning to make sure they're completely dry.
I used them right away to make Zucchini Bread. They are absolutely wonderful. I already added another set to my cart because 4 just wasn't quite enough with the recipe I have.
I read that some buyers stated they are hard to clean. I didn't have any problem with anything getting stuck in the seams. I did used a non stick spray (Pam) in them so that might make a difference.
I keep a toothbrush in the kitchen exclusively for dishes and if something along the way might stick I am sure this will solve that problem.
I love this particular brand and don't see at this price you can go wrong with these. They are sturdy where I have had some that were thin and flimsy but not these. They are a good quality with some weight to them. I am extremely pleased
These pans are not as stout as I expected. In fact, the first time I ordered them, they arrived with a deep dent in three of the pans, as if they had been wedged between two objects (although the box was undamaged.) Amazon was quick to respond to my complaint about the damage, and the second set I received was fine. Still, for a Chicago Metallic product, I expected better quality. Ignore the word "commercial" in the label. I have worked in commercial kitchens, and these are not commercial kitchen quality. These wouldn't last a week in a serious commercial environment.
I can bend them easily (which probably explains why the first ones I got were almost in a "V" shape.
I've used the pans half a dozen times now, and have no real complaints about the way breads bake in them. Loafs are evenly baked and come out of the pan easily. I have had to adjust my cook times a little because of the darker finish.
As others have pointed out, the pan corners can be hard to clean when baking certain types of breads, but the trade-off is that you get those neat-looking corners that make the loaves look so much better than rounded corners do. Still, I don't find the pans hard to clean using a round soft-bristled brush, the same kind I use to clean my travel mug.Read more ›
