Mr. Holth has done an exceptional job packing information and wonderful photographs into this small book. A must read for any bridge enthusiast, as well as anyone interested in the transportation history of the Windy City.

If you are a fan of drawbridges or the website [...], this small volume is a must! The author describes in detail the history of the Chicago drawbridges and includes many details about each bridge. The photos, many in full color, are extremely well done. Obviously the author has taken much care with this book and it should be considered a definitive source.

I enjoyed the book. My Dad was a Chicago Ironworker and worked on keeping them operable for over 40 years. The author even noted the his dedication plaque from the Grand Avenue Bridge. I wish the book had more pictures. I also wonder what became of the bridge bells and many of the other city artifacts?

I really enjoyed this little work. It highlighted even some of the bridges that are difficult to visit or photograph. Thanks!

Many of Chicago's bridges were built during the late 19th and early 20th centuries, a period of innovation in iron and steel structures. These historic bridges, most still in service, are the focus of Chicago's Bridges. This slender but lavishly illustrated volume presents five self-guided tours, enhanced by introductory and concluding chapters. History, technology, politics, and key people are covered, all at a level appropriate for readers with little bridge background. However, experts will discover new nuggets of information thanks to the author's extensive research. Chicago's Bridges is a fascinating companion for Windy City strolls, and a worthwhile read where ever you may be.
