"I can say unabashedly that I enjoyed every page, heading and picture of this book. Bovino clearly has an ability for perception that goes far beyond your average chicaspotter. This is what makes the work exceptional. If you look past the humor and playfulness of the content, you'll see that this guy has some seriously impressive analytical abilities. If I possessed these kinds of observational skills, I'm sure my blog would be ten times as helpful and entertaining. But this only comes through experience. Bovino's got about 20 years on me and what I can only assume is dozens if not hundreds of more women, so I hope to someday get on his level." - My Latin Life
"The benefit of being a skilled chicaspotter is that it sets you above other gringos. It shows that you have an understanding of different Latin cultures and Latin women. In fact, I'd argue that not being a skilled chicaspotter is simply ignorant!... Joe clearly did 'extensive research on this book--I am quite envious of that!... The profile for each Latina lady is quite thorough, and based on what I've experience, quite accurate...[The book] does a great job of what it set out to do. It's well put together in terms of artwork and data that it is well worth a read." - Seth Rose, Masculine Books
"Dear Amazon, please ban 'Chicaspotting: A Field Guide to Latinas of the United States." - Alicia Barron, Staff Writer, The Flama
"Objectifying, dehumanizing, prejudice, racist, stereotypical, degrading, hackneyed, bullshit, bigoted and misogynistic are actually the first 10 terms I think of [when considering this book]." - Raquel Reichard, Politics and Culture Editor, Latina Magazine

Joe Bovino is a witty author and Chicspotting made me laugh till it hurt. I'm not even in the market, but I truly enjoyed the read. If you want a good pick-me-up or a quick laugh, get this book.
His final line the book speaks volumes what Bovino really believes:
“I hope it helps you find, identify, appreciate, and connect with more of America’s Latinas"
I'm sure you'll enjoy a good laugh or two if you you read this. Don't get upset if you spend your time or money downloading or buying the book, its your decision...you have a choice...just like Joe has the right to publish this book due to "freedom of speech".
P.S. Rumor has it he is writing more books like: Grinospotting, ItaliSpotting and even MiddleSpotting (middle eastern) Have fun. Smile more
It’s hard not to get sucked into Twitter drama. From what I could deduce, some women were getting feisty over a book put out called Chicaspotting by Joe Bovino.
After checking out the Amazon page for the book, it was clear Joe was getting killed by dozens of negative reviews from SJW’s and feminists. Almost none of them are verified purchases, and it’s a wonder Amazon hasn’t removed them—although on the other hand some are asking for this book to be taken down entirely because it’s ‘offensive’.
This is just another example of censorship and male shaming.
Had these critics actually purchased the book for the mere $2.99 (the price when I originally purchased it), they would have seen on the first page a disclaimer saying that the book was done to be funny. It’s even listed in the ‘Humor’ category.
What is Chicaspotting?
Chicaspotting is a pretty self-explanatory activity—it’s spotting a chica, and then trying to deduce as much about her as you can just by her appearance. Some would claim this is racist, sexist, or other ‘ists’, though I’d have to disagree.
Chicaspotting is not actually not a challenging task as Bovine demonstrates. In fact, just prior to buying this book, I did some chicaspotting of my own...
I was able to figure this out as I had dated a Colombian girl before and this girl looked similar (that luscious dark black hair is always a giveaway). I picked Bogota as it was the most natural choice—it was almost like doing magic.
The benefit of being a skilled chicaspotter is that it sets you above other gringos. It shows that you have an understanding of different Latin cultures and Latin women.
In fact, I’d argue that not being a skilled chicaspotter is simply ignorant! Women, like the above girl, appreciate American guys who don’t assume every girl is from Mexico.
What to Expect From This Book
Joe clearly did ‘extensive research on this book—I am quite envious of that! Through his research he clearly extracted a lot of information. The profile for each Latina lady is quite thorough, and based on what I’ve experience, quite accurate.
He breaks different Latina’s from each country down by categories like promiscuity, maintenance, and desire to build a family. Definitely a useful tool for the man looking to make the acquaintance of these girls. My big takeaway from the book was that Latina’s are into white guys who can a.) Dance and b.) Aren’t boring–I need to step my salsa game up.
Though the book is quite short—you can knock it out in an hour or so—it does a great job of what it set out to do. It’s well put together in terms of artwork and data that it is well worth a read.
