Chihuly: Niijima Floats, In Action, River of Glass, Working with Lino Tagliapietra, Atlantis, Working with Pino Signoretto 6-Volume VHS
Pull up a chair and prepare to be enthralled. These six videos get to the fiery heart of Dale Chihuly's creative glass blowing, where teams of artists and blowers heft enormous globs of molten glass and spin and twirl and manipulate them into translucent brittle masterpieces. From Chihuly's interpretations of art deco Venetian glass in Working with Lino Tagliapietra to his spontaneous, playful collaboration with renowned Venetian master Pino Signoretto, known for his interpretations of marine life, these videos will amaze even the most blas&eavute; viewer. Whether you're an aficionado of glasswork, art, color, and creativity, or you just like watching people do dangerous things with fire, Chihuly will hold your attention.
In Chihuly in Action, the master shares his creative passion and energy with at-risk high school students to a hip-hop soundtrack. Then explore the simple perfection of handmade Japanese fishing floats in Niijima Floats. And behold the stunning commissioned sculptures--Crystal Gate, Temple of the Moon, Temple of the Sun, and Atlantis Chandelier--in Chihuly in Atlantis. Finally, watch as Chihuly takes his inspiration from the landscapes and cultures of Nuutajärvi, Finland; Waterford, Ireland; Monterrey, Mexico; and Venice, Italy. The only down side to these videos are Chihuly's uninspired attempts to describe his artistic process verbally. Aside from that, and even if Chihuly's creations aren't your style, you can't help but be impressed by the magnitude and originality of Chihuly's glasswork. --Tara Chace
