From the Manufacturer
Chikara 07135 5 Piece Prep Set
Forged cutlery is an ancient art that has been passed down through Japanese culture for centuries. Ginsu’s series of Chikara cutlery is made with Japanese 420J2 stainless steel for a stain- and rust-resistant finish that holds an incredibly sharp edge. Housed in an elegant bamboo block, this knife set is the perfect choice for anyone looking to add some traditional elegance to their kitchen countertop.
Chikara Knife Construction
Comfortable, traditional Japanese-style handles are made of heat- and water-resistant resin for a comfortable, durable ergonomic design. Expertly crafted hilts at the end of each handle protect your fingers from accidental cuts and keep the blade perfectly balanced for a precise and smooth slice each time.

Caring for Your Knives

- The fine-edged blades require periodic sharpening using whetstone
Chikara Forging Process
Utilizing the highest quality materials and craftsmanship, Chikara provides superior knives at an excellent value.
Every forged Chikara knife begins as an ingot of steel heated to 2000 degrees Farenheit and is hammered into a precision blade using over 3,000 tons of force, forming one solid piece of metal from tip to end.
Every finished knife is hand sharpened by a blade master. Using this age-old process, we are able to ensure that each knife provides superior strength, balance, and durability.

Top Customer Reviews
Any kitchen should have a minimum of a Chef's knife, a utility knife, a paring knife and a slicer; to chop, dice and slice. This set has all that one needs. The knives are esthetically beautiful but unbalanced because of heavy handles; one needs to apply more pressure when using the "blade grip". They are razor sharp from the factory and maintain their edge for a long time if properly cared for. Always hand wash and dry after use (otherwise may develop spots on the blade), NEVER wash in dishwasher, this will dull the edge. Always replace in the protective wood block instead of tossing in a drawer.
This is a great buy of a very good set of knives at a very fair price, and almost a steal when purchased at Amazon.
Update: based upon favorable experience with this knife set, I ordered a 4-piece Ginsu steak knife set from Amazon. The reviews on the steak knives were largely favorable with the biggest complaint being the stainless steel blades developed rust stains within short time period. A careful reading of the less-positive reviews shows the buyers cleaned their knives in a dish washer. My wife and I have a set of Towle flat wear and some time ago noted rust spots on the "18/10 stainless" blades of the knives when washed in the dishwasher. When we began hand-washing the knives, the spotting stopped. I cannot tell you if the problem is impurities in the metal, chemicals in the dishwasher detergent or another factor. But I am betting if the Ginsu blades are washed by hand, there will be no rust spot problems.
My wife just pointed out that our original Towle set is stamped "made in Germany" while more recent pieces added (still Towle, same style, same 18/10 stainless designation) are stamped "made in China". Guess which pieces had the rust spots after a few runs thru the dishwasher? I'm just saying.....
Originally I was looking at a larger set, but when I saw this set, I knew that it had everything I really needed for most jobs. I liked the fact that the block was fairly small and wouldn't take up much counter space, so I decided to try them out.
Many reviews talk about how sharp these knives are, and they are right! They slice through meat, fruit and vegetables with almost not effort at all. In addition, they have enough weight to them to give them a good feel in your hand. I was concerned that they were going to be too light and feel cheap, but that wasn't the case. I wouldn't call them heavy, but definitely heavy enough to have a quality feel.
You really do have to be careful with these knives because they are so heavy that they will sometimes surprise you!
I owned a few Henckels knives in the past and really liked the quality, but even with hand washing and care, the handles develop small cracks over time. I don't see myself ever spending the money on Henckels knives again. I couldn't be happier with this set of Ginsu Chakara knives. I didn't realize that Ginsu made high quality knives in addition to the sets you used to see on TV. I have owned these for less than 3 months, so I can't attest to their longevity, but I hope to have them for years to come. So far, I have followed the manufacturer's instructions--I wash each knife by hand quickly after each use and dry completely, and they still look great.
This small set of knives is so handy, and you can't beat the price or performance!

They look good. Not very sharp though. Better after using a sharpener but still.... Had better experience with a cheap $3.50 Knife from the asia store. But they look good.Published 3 months ago by ComputerGuy
