A child with a learning disability can quickly become lost in a world that fails to truly understand the true nature of the repetitive, restricted impairments, communication difficulties, and stereotypical patterns of behavior. Children with autism spectrum disorder may fail to respond to social cues that make it seems as though they lack empathy. Noah’s shortcomings quickly become his deep rooted strength. In most cases, we start off as their savior and they ultimately become our savior. The story is heartbreaking and inspiring; leaving the reader hoping and praying for Noah’s future success. This book will open your eyes and heart to Autism!
This is quite the emotional journey as we experience Belangela and Preben's joy and despair along with them. The author does not hold anything back and shares with us her deepest thoughts and feelings, making it all the more powerful.
This is a wonderful, touching story and provides a look into a world that most are reluctant to share. Whether you are the parent of an autistic child or not you are sure to enjoy this amazing book. I definitely recommend it.
Author Belangela G. Tarazona spares nothing as she allows us entry to her most private thoughts and feelings. She explains how she came to Denmark with her ex-husband, the turmoil experienced in that marriage and how she came to meet Preben, her future husband. When she finds out she is pregnant she allows us into the most intimate moments of her life including the previous loss she suffered when her daughter passed away and the heartbreaking moments that followed. Given her prior experiences Belangela is both excited and anxious at the thought of another baby.
Belangela and Preben are married and their son Noah is born. In the beginning everything seems to be fine however, soon they are faced with the reality that something is different. After seeing doctors, waiting for results and taking all the tests, Belangela and Preben discover that their son is Autistic. In a country where things move slowly this is a long an arduous undertaking. With unique strength, Belangela cares for and appreciates her son.
This is a moving journey that is both touching and inspiring. If you have an autistic child, care for an autistic child or know anyone with an autistic child this book will help you immensely with understanding the special challenge and remarkable joy that can come from such a relationship. I highly recommend it!
The real part of the story is her acceptance of her child's diagnosis and all that it brings with it. The writing flowed very nicely, and I found myself immersed in the story very quickly. I would recommend this book to parents whose children have autism, as well as to teachers, caretakers, social workers, and others who have daily contact with autistic children.
Belangela G.Tarazona leaves everything on the table here as she shares her struggles with her readers. She writes with such compassion that is coming directly from her heart and her experience. Noah teaches us all a few things as well - we will all look at autism in a different perspective.
This book is full of hope, inspiration, and encouragement. This is an excellent memoir. Must read!
