About the Author

Eve Hathaway was born in Delridge, Washington where she lived for 5 years with her parents and younger sister. For better employment opportunities, the family moved to Seattle - the city they all call home.
As an older sister always expected to set be a "good role model", Eve adapted the logical and practical perspective of an adult at a young age. At seven, she stopped hiding her loose tooth under a pillow and putting up her stocking by the window on Christmas Eve. She developed a sense of independence and responsible quickly. But she knew no world beyond reality.
In high school, Eve's after-school routine involved dropping by the local library and waiting for half an hour for her dad's shift to end so they could drive home together. To kill time, instinct pushes us to grab whatever is in front of us. Eve was always surrounded by books. She wasn't much of a reader - primarily because she only owned textbooks - which she refers to as the most potent sleeping pills. But after skimming a random fiction novel, she was hooked. She would check out book after book almost daily and sneak a read at every opportunity. Her favorites were those which took her to new worlds and introduced her to different new species. She read them then but writes them now.
Eve finished an Associate Degree in Elementary Education at Seattle Community College. She now works part time at a local school as a substitute teacher. At the same time, she authors paranormal romance, fantasy, urban legend, and fantasy books - inspired by library books and the creative minds of her elementary students.

A car, a boat, an airplane. No seriously what's to review.the book barley started before it was over. I think the author author used the the 5 W's and an H out of journalism and put them together and called it a book. All I got out of this book is a 15 year old ran away from a cult because she had to marry an older man. The boy that picked her up had a girlfriend he lied to.
She was trying to help who she thought was an Angel who killed two people in car fires and now has red glowing eyes. Oh and one time she went trick or treating and saw a demon. It ended with the burning truck turning into two men and a blue car that they thought was following them earlier in the day.
This child really was a mystery as I never got a chance to know her and what's a book when you don't even know the main character.
Sorry, not interested in spending money on any more of these books. Even if the first book was a free teaser, didn't transcend enough to go any further.
My 15 year old grandson read it and his response was so.... "what was that supposed to be about. I really couldn't understand who these people are or what they're doing."
Sorry, Ms. Hathaway a Good basic outline turned out to be be just that. Pull it, expand it, introduce me to your characters and then tell an EXCITING plot about them. This book ended up just being hog wash, hodge podge.

I don't feel that this is a book. It's a chapter. I won't be moving forward if there is a series. It's for a middle to high school audience.

I read this "book" (chapter, in my opinion) in just a few short minutes. If it's directed at teenagers it might be a decent read. I found it a bit juvenile but entertaining until it simply ended abruptly. I thought "Okay, I'll just go check out the subsequent chapters.". Uhm, no! I will NOT be paying nearly $3 per chapter for this "book". If I'm going to pay for sequels they will darn sure be worth the read.

I was highly disappointed. I felt like it was just an excerpt. Story goes nowhere. It ended with a note to go to the 2nd book. I could not find it.

The story starts off with Melinda. Melinda is a 15 year old with a special gift. Unlike other kids her age, she has the gift that can sense auras and see visions. It’s a little disturbing to know that she’s the only person who can see these visions. Aside from that, Melinda has a few problems piled up on top of her. For starters, she’s held captive by a cult. Second of all, the same cult is planning to marry her off to a man a lot older than her. She needs to escape to live a better life but not before she saves another teenage boy named Caleb. Caleb is also held captive by the cult. Caleb has a secret though. Would he help Melinda escape from them if she helps him escape too?
The book has so much potential with its plots and characters. The story line is easy to follow. There aren’t new characters that just pop out of nowhere. I like how the author delivers the characters’ lines. It’s fluid and it feels natural. The emotion is also well described too. There are scenes that you can actually feel and empathize with Melinda and her lot in life. The only downside I see in this book is that it could have been longer. It felt hanging and unfinished. I guess I couldn’t complain much since it is a FREE book. I can’t wait for the next book to come out.

I wish I had read the reviews first. I would not have started this one. It's like the author didn't know how to finish the book, so she just quit. I won't read any more by her.

Maybe it was the age or lack of description for the main character, but I never attached to the main character or comprehended what the story was going to be in The Child of Mystery: Chains of Darkness 1. It almost read like a long synopsis or extensive blurb without getting to any meaty storyline.
If Melina had a special gift, it wasn't special enough to transcend with this reader.

The more I read, the less impressed I felt. I always, always give authors a 2nd chance, but having this end as though the author simply stopped all efforts, threw in the towel and published it just to get it on bookshelves, soured me. I won't go read another of her novels and will return to good old dectective gumshoe, romance, Dean Koontz thrillers, and leave weird stuff on the back burner a while.
I do try to read a variety of genres, but will stick to the norm for my next twenty reads.

Maybe you will appreciate Eve Hathaway's other novels, so I suggest you closely read average reviews and absolutely read the novel's Sample before downloading. Good luck.

Book is very, very, very short. About as long as this review. It is an expanded synopsis at best to get you to buy the "real book" which is cheaper than buying it 82 pages at a time. Took less than 45 min to read this book and the beginning of the next chapter. . .l mean "book" which would cost 2.99. Ok all for an author getting paid but for 82 pages I'd pay .99 no m
ore. Good luck to the writer who shows some skill in weaving a tale. . .but not even for Mr. King would I pay so much for a pamphlet. Sorry.
